I found a marriage record for a potential relative. According to his processetti from 1819 in Cellino Attansio, Giacomo di Tommaso di Giacomo was born in 1793 to Tommaso di Giacomo and Giacoma de Sanctis in San Giacomo, a hamlet of Atri. He was legitimate and his parents were married. 3 pages after that, he declares before the court that he has no knowledge of the date of death or ancestry of his father. Giacoma was still living at the time of his marriage. 5 years later, his daughter passes away in infancy and her and Giacomo's surname is recorded as lacovone.
My ancestor Domenicantonio di Giacomo was born in 1804 in San Giacomo to Tommaso di Giacomo and Angela Rosa Canulli (sometimes referred to as Angela Rosa di Sabatino/di Serafino in various documents). He was also legitimate and it says that Tommaso and Angela were married. Domenicantonio's processetti record from 1834 in Cellino Attanasio states that he appeared before the court and declared he had no knowledge of the date of death or ancestry of his father. Antonio had children and on some of his children's birth records, their surname is recorded as lacovone. Angela Rosa died in 1817 in Cellino. Obviously, Antonio and Giacomo share the same father but how is it that Tommaso had 2 wives even though Angela and Giacoma were alive at the same time? Or is it the same woman named differently? Is there an explanation for this?
(I should also mention that Giacomo's wife's brother married Tommaso's daughter with Angela Rosa in 1822)

Re: Ancestor with 2 wives?
How do you know the two Tommaso's are the same person? It sounds like you don't have the death record of either Tommaso, so you may not be able to confirm that. The most likely explanation is they aren't the same.
If they are in fact the same, do you know for sure that Giacoma de Sanctis did not die before Domenicantonio was born? I have never seen a situation at this time in Italy where a man was married to two different living women.
