Birth record - mother not listed

Post by michaeldi »

Hello,

I am able to understand this records but am stuck on the section where the mother is listed as "unmarried woman who is not related...." I don't fully understand this entry. The father was married and already had children. The family went back to Italy for a while before returning to the US.

Any assistance in understanding the full verbiage plus what might have occurred is appreciated.

Name: Arturo Fabiucci - born 2 APR 1909

The child resulted from Angelo, the father, being in a natural union with a woman who was not married, or related to him in any degree, which would prevent recognition of the child as hers. (The mother’s identity is not given in the record).

You're very welcome. The only additional info in the record is that the father, only age 23, did NOT present the infant at the town hall, as was the practice. The reason given is "distance." So the town hall was at some distance from the location where the infant was born (which was possibly in a remote area outside of the town itself).
