Help with Spinazzola records

Post by cwyka »

Hello!!

My grandfather, Michelangelo Spinazzola, was born in Avellino on September 17, 1889. His parents are Crescenzo Spinazzola and Anna Sacco.

I found my grandfather’s birth record with father Crescenzo Spinazzola but the mother is noted as Anna Moccia NOT Anna Sacco. Then I stumbled on another birth record for another Michelangelo born on January 14, 1886 with father Crescenzo Spinazzola and mother Anna Sacco!

Links to records are below:

—-Michelangelo (my grandfather) birthdate September 1889

https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12657/an_ud534191

—-Michelangelo birthdate January 1886

https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12657/an_ud533926

—THEN I found a death record for a Michelangelo with parents Crescenzo and Anna Sacco

https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12 ... 83/LeqRAMW

My grandfather never spoke about Moccia or an older brother. Could Moccia be an error? Any help anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated!!

Thank you!

link to the marriage record referenced in the margin of the 1889 birth record:

https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12 ... 17/0AWrgV3

Also if you jump ahead to p. 74 of the 1889 birth records where the mother's name is given incorrectly as Moccia, you will also find a copy of the annotation marriage document giving his mother's name as Sacco. I don't see a correction though for the error in the birth document, but the record number is referenced in the annotation marriage document.

Sorry I can't help you further this week, Carolyn. Busy with the Thanksgiving holiday this week and am on the way out with my husband now.

Carolyn

A quickie-the link you posted for the death record of a Michelangelo S. doesn't work, and I can't find the record even copying and pasting what you posted with the part of the link that is not highlighted.

As to his 1886 birth record: he was born on Jan 14, 1886 at 7:36 P.M. in the house at #6 Strada Palazzo. Parents: Crescenzo S., 28, a contadino/peasant, and Anna Sacco. In the margin, there is marriage info for him to a Rosa Mustone on Feb 16, 1920. I can't read the word after her name and don't see the record in the town of Melito Irpino.

So can you clarify the date of the death? I have other stuff I need to do today and may not be able to get back to you until after the holiday.

Michelangelo S. was born on the 17th of Sept 1889 at 5:12 P.M. in the house at #2 Contrada Casino to Crescenzo S, age 34, a peasant, and his wife Anna Moccia*. The record had been read aloud by the town official and Crescenzo did not sign at the bottom, as he was illiterate. In the margin of the record is his marriage info to Irene Martino in Melito on Jan 2, 1908. I already found that record for you.

I also found the marriage record for Crescenzo S. and Anna Sacco. Record #8 dated Aug 30, 1883. Crescenzo was age 24 and the son of deceased Pasquale S and Concetta Caruso. Anna Sacco 24 and the daughter of dec Michelangelo (Sacco) and Saveria Moccia*. So it was Anna's mother's surname which mistakenly was recorded on Michelangelo's 1889 birth record as his mother's surname.

The first Michelangelo S. died on April 29, 1888 at age 2, in the house at #1 Strada Viamonte. He was the son of Crescenzo Spinazzola and Anna Sacco, both peasants. Reporting the death at the town hall were Francesco Sciarappa, age 50, a peasant in the town, and also Giuseppe Spinazzola, age 40, a peasant as well. Giuseppe's relationship to Crescenzo, if any, is not given in the record.
