1940 Census
Re: 1940 Census
Wow DeLisa,
Thats a big project! It sounds so interesting. I'd love to participate but will need to check it out a little more carefully since I don't understand it all upon first glance. It seems like it is a lengthy project but a very interesting one as well.
I'm glad you posted it!

Re: 1940 Census
I think its like everything else...you don't really just want one place you have to access records. We'd be paying through the roof if that was the case. We need choices...Steve provides an exceptional service through his site and offers different search options. The LDS will be doing the same and I'm sure other sites have also started indexing the records. Some sites will use an index only option, others will provide links.
Re: 1940 Census
Maybe, and this is a big maybe.......if enough records start to appear thru the state databases and other genealogy sites....Ancestry will have no choice but to lower their prices, they are so over inflated......
Searching Ellis Island without Steves site is a royal pain.....thank you Steve for the "one step pages".......
He and Joel made this project a joy to work on!!!

ancestry stops at the 1930 census.
1940 has not yet been compiled.

Re: 1940 Census
You guys are so lucky!! Here in England, the last census, we have access to is the 1901, due to the 100 year privacy law!!! In 2009, part of the 1911 will be released, but not all of it, untill 2012!!! I know we should respect the law, but it would be great to see it sooner!! A recent petition to no 10 Downing St, didnt change the minds of them in power!!lol

Re: 1940 Census
The complete 1940 census is not due to be released until 2012....??
This project was about indexing the street names and Enumeration Districts, which placed into a search engine enables one to find the correct ED based on the street name. A shortcut of sorts!!
