Thanks so much. A very informative explanation. A gift to have these registers and this forum to help everyone with their research
Absolutely!!! This forum is so resourceful. If you have any questions you can always check here to see whether the topic has been covered already. Mostly it has, but not always. Just click on "quick links" top left corner and then "search". If you don't see it there, then ask away. There's always lots of good people here to help. Spot you again.
Martina Sterlocchi died 26 March 1871 at 11 pm in the town of Verceia. She was the daughter of the deceased Francesco Sterlocchi and of the deceased Domenica Oreggioni. She was a contadina, 34 yo, the wife of the living Pietro Falcinella.
I have found a possible match online with a Martina Sterlocchi born 1837 in Verceia but under the name of Marta Maria Sterlocchi.
Marriage to Pietro Falcinella in 1862 which also matches. Parents Francesco Sterlocchi and Domenica Sterlocchi (nata Oregioni). She has 4 siblings. Guglielmo Sterlocchi was born in 1851 as the next confirmed sibling after her birth in 1837.
Are you able to please post the link to the information that you have located which records Martina's name to be Marta Maria. If it doesn't reference her Birth or Church Record No, I'd be a little bit suspicious that the info is accurate.
Also, for your info, Domenica Oregioni would not have been known as Domenica Sterlocchi after her marriage to Francesco Sterlocchi. She would've remained Domenica Oregioni. Italian women, in Italy, don't take on their husband's surnames. So you need to be searching for Domenica Oregioni.
Thanks for posting the link. I had seen that tree and wondered whether that was what you were referring to.
Re your question about whether the Marta Maria Sterlocchi in the tree is the same person as your Martina Sterlocchi, it could possibly be, but without seeing your Pietro Facinella and Martina Sterlocchi’s marriage record, and your Martina’s birth record, to me it is not conclusive. We know that they were both born circa 1837. The Marta Maria in the tree seems to be the first daughter born to Francesco Sterlocchi and Domenica Oregioni, and as is the custom was named after Marta Ghelfi, Francesco’s mother. It bothers me that there arn’t any references and that in some cases only the year of birth, and not the complete birth date is given. (Maybe the years referenced were only estimates?) If you click on “Persone” it takes you to a spreadsheet with so many names, but many of the names have no birthdates, no birth locations, no references to give substance to the information presented.
What I’m understanding from the research there is that Francesco Sterlocchi had one child with Domenica Oregioni (Marta/Maria Marta?) and then had four children with a Maria Anna Ghelfi as follows Guglielmo (1851-1918), Domenica (1853), Maria Anna (1855) and Anna Maria (1857). Is that what you are understanding? But there is no mention of when Domenica Oregioni died? I’ll keep pondering this.... For me there seems to be too many gaps in that tree which is understandable given there are limited searchable bdm's available.
Yes, that is what i am also understanding that Francesco has married twice, one child (Martina) with Domenica and a further 4 with Maria Ghelfi.
Given the gaps, I thought the tree as presented seemed to match what I had already presumed had happened and that maybe it may have just been a spelling error with Martina’s name. It would be interesting to have that confirmed on the spreadsheet though.
I've made several cousin connections using ancestry.com. With many of them we will simply exchange an email here and there on ancestry.com and compare some notes. I find that most people go to ancestry.com mainly to have a DNA test, an aren't that interested in building a family tree, making connect...
