help to translate birth certificate
Re: help to translate birth certificate
Hi I found a birth record that might be Gennaro Grasso, Father of Carmena. From 1809.
https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12 ... 06/wlgg3xE Page 67 #130. If you get a chance to translate, that would be great or should I put it under translation forum under new topic.

Re: help to translate birth certificate
Hi there, it's fine to post your translation requests here. I can't look at them right now as I have an appointment to get to.
To be sure you have the births of the right people, working back from the first known child born to a couple, you need to then locate that couple's marriage record, which will include the names of each of their parents. That way, when you locate a birth record the parents named on the birth record should match their marriage record. Hope this makes sense. I need to dash.
(If no marriage record then look for the parents death records which will also have their parents names and should include their spouse which you will know from their children's birth records. All the civil records you find pertaining to a couple should tally.)

Great!!! This one is correct. I've located Giuseppe Compare and Anna Izzo's marriage record and will post once I've translated it.garyitaly wrote: 16 Jul 2024, 22:19 https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12 ... 06/wRkkozY #153, page 78. 1809 Anna Izzo. ? maybe

Re: help to translate birth certificate
Following on:
Marriage No 31: Giuseppe Compare and Anna Izzo
Montesarchio: 4 October 1838
Appearing were:
Groom: Giuseppe Compare, 32 yo (c.1806), born in Montesarchio, a contadino, living therein, the son of the deceased Nicola Compare, and of the deceased Giovanna Latessa
Bride: Anna Izzo, 29 yo, born in Montesarchio?, living therein, the daughter of Paolo Izzo, a contadino and of Beatrice Caturano, living therein.
They were married in the church of Santissima Annunziata? on 23 December 1838.
At the base of page one it mentions the attachments that were presented, which I can barely read but it will be the Birth Records of the bride and groom, death record of the father of the groom, Nicola Compare, and mother of the groom Giovanna Latessa, and also Giuseppe Compare, the paternal grandfather of the groom ... then because of the quality of the record I get lost. I looked for the attachments which were out of order but didn’t see any for this marriage which is a shame. I’ll recheck tomorrow just in case I missed them.

Re: help to translate birth certificate
Check my previous four posts first.
Interesting that that both couples were married the same year.
Marriage No 36: Gennaro Grasso and Antonia Quarantiello
Montesarchio: 30 November 1838
Groom: Gennaro Grasso, 44 yo, born in Montesarchio, a contadino, living therein, the son of the deceased Vincenzo Grasso, and of Maria Campanile.
Bride: Antonia Quarantiello, 30 yo, born in Montesarchio, living therein, the daughter of Domenico Quarantiello and of Teodora Bianco, both living therein.
Right Column: They were married in the church of Cirignano, on 9 December 1838.
Allegati (Attachments) were:
1. Birth Act of the Groom
2. Death Act of Vincenzo Grasso, father of the groom
3. Birth Act of the Bride
4. Notification Act made in this town which resulted in no opposition to the marriage taking place.
There is mention there of the groom’s deceased paternal grandfather. His name was Alessandro Grasso but there is no death record for him ......

Re: help to translate birth certificate
Yes it is very exciting!!! The civil records for the town of Montesarchio are fantastic to search and work with.
Here is one more translation for you which will take you back to c. 1744.
1814 Death No 28: Vincenzo Grasso
Registered in Montesarchio on 7 March 1814
Appearing were Giuseppe Grasso, 25 yo, contadino, living in said town, Strada Carci?, son of the deceased, and Crescenzo Ambrosone, 50 yo, contadino, living in said place. They reported that on 7 of the current month Vincenzo Grasso, son of the deceased Alessandro Grasso and Teresa Capaano/Capuano?, and husband of Maria Campanile, 70 yo (c.1744), contadino, living in said street, died in his own house.
Original Death Record is here: https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12 ... 99/Lpqqbq1
Extract is here: https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12 ... 98/58Jl1lm
I located the original Death Record for you as often there are errors in the extracts. Both the extract and the original were a bit tricky to read in places. I’m not completely sure of Gennaro’s paternal grandmother’s surname. In the original death record it has her as Capaana and in the extract it reads more like Capuana which I tend more towards. Just keep a look out for this surname as you are going through the records. (Although it could be that Teresa C was from another town. You could look for her death record which will hopefully have the correct spelling and also take you back further on her side.)
