Help Confirm Children's Names Birth and Death

Post by bmorocco »

Greetings,

I have begun trying to map out siblings of GGF who emigrated. I want to try to find relatives I may have in Artena, Rome.

I can read these names clearly but I am noticing the long, full names are not in the order I assumed. The "simple" first name changes on Nati & Morti records. So for instance:

This is Birth record of my GGF's oldest sibling, named Antonio Clemente Giovanni Talone
https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12 ... 77/wEDrdmV

Sadly there is this death record only 3 years, 3 mos later (assuming I am correct) But the name now is listed simply as GIOVANNI:
https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12 ... lW?lang=en

Similarly, Birth record of PIETRO ANTONIO DOMENICO, 20 October 1878.
https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12 ... nO?lang=en

And then I find a death notice, for "Domenico" and I believe this is the same child, only 8 DAYS later:
https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12 ... 03/Lqz27QP

I have seen records where the SINDACO records both "Nome Cognome" and also "Cognome, Nome." But when the children's name is recorded 2 times in the record it is in the same order both times. So I'm confused when they later only have one recorded, and the last one.

Is it common or in fact THE STANDARD, for example, that the 3rd name as the 1st name later in life? This has been true with both my GGF Talone and also with my grandfather, from a Calabrian branch, born in US. BC says Angelo Riccardo... But all of family knew him as only Richard.

My ability to make out the handwriting is very weak whenever the records are saying "extra information." So there may be more in the "name of child" section that I just can't make out.

A follow up question is that this single page has twins listed... but I can't make out any special notations that make it clear?

Birth of Leopoldo & Federico Talone 3 March 1886

Thanks for taking a look!

Hello,
in the case of the twins, after the name of the baby, in the former record it is written "e che è gemello con altro cui concerne l'atto seguente", and in the latter ""e che è gemello con altro cui concerne l'atto precedente", i.e. "who is the twin of another baby, to whom refers the following (or previous, in the other record) record"

The use of multiple names does not have rules. So, in the birth record, you find the "official" name. The name used in the family might be one of the multiple ones, or even a different one.
For instance, it might happen that after the birth of a child, someone in the family died, and the family started using the name of the dead for the child, instead of the official one. As I said, however, no standard, no rules.

Thank you Pippo,

I had found an Trentinale Index for Artena and it took me a day to realize Federico - on page 6 and Leopoldo, on page 8 - were taking me to the same # and page in the Nati records.

I'm happy to know the name situation. Fortunately for this branch of the Family the parent names are clearly spelled out. I have harder time with the Calabria / Sicilia branches.

I hope to "win" my 1948 case in October this year and so be on the path to citizenship. As I understand it, I will then be registered in ARTENA/ROME as having a birth record. So I've been focusing on this branch in hopes of finding parallel descendants that I might reach out to.
Are there sites that people use in Italy separate from Ancestry, Family Search, etc? Or are there other routes that you know about that one could use to establish contact?

grazie!
