Missanellese Society (1905) Utica
Does anyone have any information about the Missanellese Society that was formed in 1905 in Utica. This is a society that was formed in Utica that I believe some of my ancestors were members of. Interested to find any information that people may have about this.

Here is a link to an Oneida County Supreme Court case involving the Missanellese Society.
It provides some historical background of this mutual aid society.

Thanks so much Tessa! Yes I saw this document, I believe dated 1930. I see that the group was created in 1905. What is interesting is that there is a Missanellese icon on some of my ancestors grave stones. They are very faint but I was able to locate it and then I can easily spot it on some of the headstones. I was completely unaware of this until then. I have another document that mentions it and that my G.G.G Grandfather Antonio was part of this society. I just cant find anything earlier than 1930 that talks about it. Sounds like a good thing and not a bad thing. A community that helps its members from the same commune's in Italy that were migrating over at that time.Tessa78 wrote: 04 Sep 2024, 01:48 Here is a link to an Oneida County Supreme Court case involving the Missanellese Society.

Wow! I just finished reading this from cover to cover, and I am deeply moved. So many names mentioned have connections to my own family in Utica, early settlers who left a profound legacy. It brings a mix of emotions—on one hand, immense pride in their resilience, but on the other, a deep sadness at the hardships they endured. While I’ve always known about the challenges they faced, hearing these stories firsthand from those early settlers is truly heartbreaking. I am so grateful that you shared this. It has been an honor to read this text—thank you!

I had no idea about this until that moment. I possess another document that references it and notes that my great-great-great-grandfather Antonio was involved in this society. However, I am struggling to locate any information from before 1930 that discusses it.
