Right to Italian citizenship (from Canada)

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Right to Italian citizenship (from Canada)

Post by stfrancis »

Hello all

My Italian grandfather came to NYC by the year 1900. I have only his marriage certificate for that year. His wife was born in NYC. My father was born in NYC in 1901.
They then immigrated to Canada in 1902 for which I have my gf's arrival & citizenship documentation in the local court. In 1940, he obtained his "Federal" certificate of citizenship. My father also obtained his federal citizenship circa 1975.

I am unsure where that leaves me in terms of any possibility of obtaining Italian citizenship (relative to the Canadian laws) ?
Any ideas or thoughts are appreciated.

It all depends on when naturalization took place and the age of their children at the time of naturalization. Without that information, it’s impossible to know.
