Italian Dish

As a nation state, Italy has emerged only in 1871. Until then the country was politically divided into a large number of independant cities, provinces and islands. The currently available evidences point out to a dominant Etruscan, Greek and Roman cultural influence on today's Italians.

Anyone know if an Italian food dish which would be considered both vegetarian and savory?

If I understand the meaning of "savory" and you mean "vegetarian" and not "vegan", might parmigiana di melanzane work (provided you don't add meat in the sauce)?

Breaded and fried melanzane should would work, too...

That's a favorite of mine.

I've heard "savory" defined variously as spicy, hearty, non-sweet, etc. There doesn't seem to be a consensus.
