Naples Research Questions and Church Records Researcher Recommendations

Post by ItalyResearcher »

Hello Forum Members,

We are looking for some reliable Genealogist recommendations to search Naples Church records for us. (We will also need a recommendation for the Basilicata region.) We’ve been successful in researching online records through Antenati for various comunes over the years, but just recently uncovered a branch that shows ties to Naples.

In addition, through an online search of the Archivio Storico Diocesano di Napoli, we found an ancestor’s 1808 marriage index. Because it is prior to the Antenati records and this is only an index, it does not show the parents of the bride and groom so we are unable to move back the line. (It does provide a series of letters/numbers that appears to be a locator for the actual record.) How do we know which parish in Naples this index is from in order to even attempt to contact the priests to obtain the record attached to the index? (Naples research seems a bit more complex than the smaller comunes we have researched over the years.)

Are there other online sites you can recommend for searching Church records for the Campania and Basilicata regions? Most of the comunes we need are not available on the FamilySearch website.

Thanks in advance for any guidance or assistance.

Hello, the codes mentioned in the index should be enough to have the documents found.
You have to write an email, and they will send you a quote for the research.

Ciao a tutti,
I have the same question about writing Italian churches! So many churches here have merged or closed, & maybe in IT too? I've looked at the map of Napoli, but don't know which church to write for info on my bisnonni, I do know he did die there. The diocese doesn't hold those records.

I got his wedding date in Napoli, when I posted here about my 3 elusive bisnonno names back in 2013, and had responses the next day! I still haven't find his birth [ca 1840] in Napoli? or O'Tranto, Lecce? Nor have I found his death date [ca 1899] defiantly in Napoli! Not even on Antenati. I know my nonna's side was from Monticalvario, Napoli, and he likely died there?

Recently I found my father's paternal side, to the 3nd bisnonni, who were originally from Basilicata [San Chirico Raparo, Potenza]! Here too, how could I know which church they had their sacraments in?

Mille grazie for how ever you can help me on this.
