Marriage Attachments - Event Dates

Post by AngelaGrace56 »

Looking at the attached Marriage Record, could somebody please fill in any gaps and check that I have the dates correct for each event, in particular the Death Act of the Mother of the Groom. I am unable to locate the Death Record for her in 1827 so it must be wrong or I'm misreading it – maybe it's 1828 (not on line)? Thank you.

Birth Act of the Groom – Francesco Sorce (born c.1802) (Baptism Record)
Birth Act of the Bride - Rosa Maria La Mattina (born c.1807) (Baptism Record)

Death Act of the father of the groom – Salvadore Sorce - 5 October 1795
Death Act of the Mother of the Groom – Giovanna Calleri - ? August 1827
Death Act of the paternal grandfather of the groom – ? Sorce - 24 June 1818
Death Act of the father of the bride – Tommaso La Mattina - 7 February 1809
Death Act of the paternal grandfather of the bride – ? La Mattina - 30? September 1789???

Looking over the record, I read the same dates that you read. I agree that the date on the groom's mother's death is difficult to read. But since the marriage takes place in April 1828, it would not reference a death that took place in August 1828...
So 1827 (or some other year in the 20s) is most likely.

Also... at the end of the list of documents provided, I see the death of the first wife of the groom on 3 August 1827. Not sure if you did not list that intentionally.
Here is the record for Francesco Sorce's first wife's death. #174

Another option could be 1824 but unfortunately this cannot be checked as death records for that year are missing.

Thank you so much for checking the dates Tessa. I really appreciate it. I’m glad we agree.

Thanks also for deciphering Anna Riino’s death date and locating her Death Record. I couldn’t read or even see the date. I could only decipher mention of a wife. I still can’t read the date using my computer, but checked via my tablet and it seems clearer there now that you have pointed it out. Thanks.

I agree with your reasoning about the death event not taking place in August 1828 but wondered whether “August” was an error and the death happened that year prior to April. I went through all the records with death indices but couldn’t locate Giovanna Calleri’s death record, and like Farassino feel she possibly died in 1824.

Thanks for chiming in Farassino. 1824 was my thinking too.
