I am gathering records for my Sicilian side of the family and need some assistance translating the following records:

Welcome to the forum. I'm basically bumping this thread for you. I've translated the first record for you for now and will come back in an hour or two if no one else translates the other three here. I have issue with multiple translation requests in one thread because sometimes in the past I have translated a number of records on a single thread and someone else has also, and then posted before me, so it ends up being time wasted. So maybe just stick to two requests per thread.


Birth No 12 Filippo Tusa

Registered in Gibellina on 28 January 1890

Appearing before the official was Giuseppe Tusa, 28 yo, contadino (peasant farmer), living in Gibellina. He declared to the official that at 11.30 am on 27 of the current month (ie 27 January 1890) in the house in Via Santa Caterina, No 37?, from Caterina Plaja/Plaia, donna di casa (a housewife/domestic - one who undertook domestic duties), his wife, living with him, was born a baby boy who he presented to the official, and gave the name of Filippo. The other names mentioned there are generally just those who happened to be present at the Town Hall on the day and invited to witness the birth registration etc.

Marriage No 31: Giuseppe Tusa and Caterina Plaja/Plaia

Gibellina: 12 June 1886

Before the Official appeared:

Groom: Giuseppe Tusa, Celibe (unmarried), 27 yo, a contadino (peasant/farmer), born and residing in Gibellina, son of Filippo Tusa and of the deceased Antonina Jenna.

Bride: Caterina Plaja/Plaia, nubile (unmarried), 24 yo, lavandaia (washerwoman), born and residing in Gibellina, daughter of Pietro and of Antonia Bonura?, both residing in Gibellina.

The script is quite challenging in places. I'll glean some more info from the marriage banns and post them shortly.

Marriage Publication No 25: Giuseppe Tusa and Caterina Plaia

Gibellina 14 May 1886

Basically the same information, except it record’s the groom’s father’s age and occupationj. He (Filippo) was 60 yo, residing in Gibellina, his occupation was a Villico (farmer). His mother of course was deceased so no added info.

It also records info about the bride’s parents: father Pietro was 69 yo, also a villico, residing in Gibellina, and his wife Antonia Bonura was a lavandaia (washerwoman), also residing in Gibellina, no age is given for her.

The right side column is just stating the dates the marriage banns were posted on the door of the town hall.

Death No 12: Giuseppe Tusa

Registered in Gibellina on 24 January 1902

The two gravediggers reported that at 6.20 pm yesterday (23 January 1902 in Via Sacerdote Pizzolato, No 74, Giuseppe Tusa, 49 yo, contadino, residing in Gibellina, died. He was born and resided in Gibellina, the son of the deceased Giuseppe, also a contadino, and of the deceased Margherita Bonura, a casalinga, who had both lived in Gibellina when living. This Giuseppe Tusa was the husband of Maria Santangelo.

I can barely read the writing, it's quite small and a bit blurry, but to me it looks like it is just the closing of the 1902 Death Register. This is done every year, and often periodically during the year in some towns, where you'll see similar notes stating that the clerk has checked the register up to a certain date. Hope this makes sense.
