Records from Torre del Greco

Post by Jaclyndagostino »

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I cannot locate records from Torre del Greco prior to 1900. I’ve scoured familysearch.com and the antenati endlessly seeking records pertaining to my family unsuccessfully. I saw a reference somewhere that suggested the records for the town were also kept in Torre Annunziata, those searches were not helpful either.

I’ve written letters and sent emails to Torre del Greco and the archivo di stato di Napoli and have never received a reply.

I was thinking of researching all the churches in Torre del Greco seeking baptismal info.

I’ve only located records issued within the US after their immigration.

Has anyone else encountered this issue?

Can you write here what exactly you are looking for? What record (birth/marriage/death), names, and date.

Do you know that, for complaints made by citizens on the activities of municipal offices, you can write to URP - Ufficio Relazioni con il Pubblico (uffurp@comune.torredelgreco.na.it)?

I am sure you are aware that the officials of the Stato Civile of any town are not obliged to do research on behalf of anyone. They are required to provide copies of records for which you have a complete name and date within a reasonable amount of time. Most officials will look for one year before and after a calculated date BUT they are not obliged to do so.
I have always received records requested from Torre del Greco sometimes after I have 'jogged' their memory.
I would also like to say that I have been asked to decipher many requests written in English AND Italian that have arrived in offices from other countries. Sometimes, even I don't know exactly what you are asking for.
Do not use titles such as 'my GGrandfather' the officials really don't care about your relationship.
They want a name, a date, a father's name and a copy of some photo ID from you. That's all. If they want money, they will ask for it.

I was not aware that a copy of my photo id was necessary! I’ll keep that in mind going forward.

Hello, I am trying to obtain a birth certificate for my now deceased father, whom I believe was born in Torre Del Greco in 1926. He married my British mother in the UK and started a family. I visited Italy with my father as a child and his siblings and mother were all living in Torre Del Greco, so I assume that where my father was also born. I have emailed the city hall in Torre Del Greco and included a copy of my birth certificate. Should I have included a photo ID? If so, my ID is in my married name, so should I include my marriage certificate showing the change of name? Do I have a better change of getting a response with a letter to the town hall with photocopies, or email them? I have looked at websites who obtain Italian birth certificates for a fee, but the reviews are not encouraging. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

An email should work, and you should include a copy of your passport or ID Card. Your surname should not be an issue. But you better write in Italian, if you can't someone here will surely be willing to help.

Thanks PippoM, for your reply. Can anyone confirm this email address is correct, as I've not had a reply (but I had included my birth certificate and not a photo id). Also, I've used google translation, so is this request for a copy of my father's birth certificate correct :
sindaco@comune.torredelgreco.na.it

Saluti XXX

Just checked the email address above and it's doesn't exist...The only posts I can find for Torre de Greco comune are from 2017 and appear to be addressed to individuals and I'm getting timed out when I search for the comune online. Grateful for any advice on an email address requesting a birth certificate for 1926.

Hi Ann, "I have always received records requested from Torre del Greco"... I would like to ask if you are emailing these requests and if so, can you confirm the email address of the comune, as the one listed...sindaco@comune.torredelgreco.na.it... is being rejected and undelivered. Thanks
