Erudita,
I am confused. I have Fidele Stabile married to an Antonina Mistretta who was the daughter of Antonina Quartana. Do you think the names could have been written incorrectly. I am not sure what to think at this point. Any info you can give would be appreciated. Yes, I am working with Linda. She is my cousin.

I am still very confused. I have the wife of Fidele Stabile listed as Antonina Mistretta and her mother listed as Antonina Quartana. Could this record be reflecting the mother's name or is it possible he married a woman named Antonina Quartana?

Maybe the confusion stemmed from the priest or his cleric writing in the margin of Rosa's parents' 1804 record, Antonina Mistretta & Quartana, which he didn't do for the record above that one, even though that bride also had a deceased father, but living mother. I think it's a clerical error in the 1829 marriage record, but maybe Antonina went by only her mother's surname after her father died. I really don't know what else to say. Maybe someone else has another idea.

I had a chance earlier to do some further investigation. There’s no definite conclusion I can come to as to why her mother’s surname appears as hers in some of the records. My iPad is almost out of juice, so I hope I can type all this before it needs to be charged.
1. Baptism for son Giuseppe Aug19, 1821, her name appears as Antonina Quartana Stabile (her mothers surname)
2. Marriage of Anna Stabile and Giuseppe Reina Sept 13, 1824 her name appears as Antonina Mistretta (her own surname
3. Marriage of Francesco Vetrano and Rosa Stabile Nov 14, 1829 she’s Antonina Quartana (her mother’s surname)
4.;Marriage of Vincenzo Stabile to Antonina Caravella Sept 19, 1930, she’s Antonina Quartana (her mother’s surname)
5. Marriage of Antonino Stabile and Giuseppa Maria Majorca, she’s Antonina Mistretta (her own surname)Oct 5, 1839.
6. Marriage of Francesco Stabile to Maria Antonina Colletti on Oct 31, 1857, she’s Antonina Mistretta. (Her own surname).
I didn’t include the info from her marriage to Fidele in 1804.
I don’t know what date Antonina Quartana died, but the surname of her daughter Antonina Mistretta in the records doesn’t appear to have anything to do with whether her mother was alive or not. I really don’t know why it kept varying in the records between her mother’s surname and her own.
