Foundling Records

Hi. I’m having trouble finding my GG Grandmothers birth record? I think she was a foundling, as on another record of marriage it said ,daughter of Rachele Cioffi who died and was under the care of another cioffi man. ( I can’t remember his name) Her name was Fermina di stasio married to Salvatore Mansi in Ravello 1880. Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated. Lucie

According to the marriage record she was 21, and born in Salerno.
So, she was born in 1858 or 1859.
The registers on Antenati don't have an index, but 1859 was indexed, and she doesn't seem to be there.
You'll have to go through all the pages of 1858, or wait until it is indexed.

On your family tree it says that Fermina died in 1907 in Ravello.
That doesn’t seem to be correct as I didn’t find a death act for her in that year.

In any case, there are some dark sides to this story.
In the tree, Firmina's paternity is assigned to Alfonso Ruocco who was certainly Rachele Cioffi's husband and widower, it is stated on his death act, but on the marriage certificate it is written that Fermina was proietta and “figlia di allievo di Alfonso Ruocco” and Rachele Cioffi.

So, with patience, all you have to do is browse page by page through the 1858 birth register of Salerno, as suggested by Pippo, to see if you can find her or recover her death certificate.

I was going to search the 1858 Birth Register for Lucie earlier today and noticed that there were "Nati, Allegati" registers. When I had a closer look at the 1858 "Nati, Allegati" I noticed that all the records were pertaining to 1858 Proietti records. It seems the city of Salerno kept a separate register for children who were left at the wheel, which have been filed under Nati, Allegati on the antenati site. In the time frame that might be relevant I only saw the years 1856, 1857, 1858 and then it jumped to 1862, 1863, so maybe the 1859 Proietti register wasn't filmed? I went through each page of the 1858 Proietti register and didn't see a record there for Fermina.
