Re: Searching for My Family

Post by bob.colleen »

My grandfather, Antonio Porreco was born in Torriglia, Liguria, Genova, Italy on 1 January 1890. He departed to the USA with his stepfather and birth mother on 1 April 1900. I believe his stepfather's last name was "Delillo." I am not sure of the correct spelling.

Does anyone know about the Porreco Family from Torriglia?
All assistance is most appreciated. I do not speak or write Italian.

Thank you!

Thank you Suanj!

On my granfather's natuarlization papers in Denver, Colorado USA it shows that he arrived in New York on 15 April 1900. There is another date of 15 April 1901. There is Vessel Unknown on those papers, filed in 1912.

I have tried to find his arrival ship with no luck. His papers do say he is from Torriglia, Italy

At this point I am at a loss. I do appreciate your information very much.

Thank you for your response jcsm400!

SuanJ asked me to provide the ship's manifest for my grandfather. I have been unsuccessful in finding it. I have checked with Ellis Island with no success. Therefore, I am inquiring to see if there is another way to find information about the Porreco family from Torriglia (such as, what information may exist today of Antonio Porreco in Torriglia when he did live there and is there a family relationship in Torriglia today).

I hope I have made this more clear. If I haven't, please let me know.

Hi Robert,

Thanks for the explanation.

Unfortunately, there are no films of the records for the town of Torriglia, so you will have to write or email the city hall.

Their website has the email address.

http://en.comuni-italiani.it/010/062/index.html

To write the address is:

Ufficio di Stato Civile
Via Municipio, 16
16029 Torriglia (GE)
ITALY

All requests should be in Italian. When writing include a copy of your photo
ID, a self addressed return envelope, & two international reply coupons. These are obtained from your post office.

Here is a form letter that will translate your request from English to Italian.

http://www.circolocalabrese.org/resourc ... /index.asp

And here is an Italian-English genealogical word list to help translate the records.

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/ ... Italia.ASP

I hope this helps. If you need anything else, at any time, please just ask. We are all here to help. And please keep us posted on your progress.

Good luck in your research.
