Re: PayPal message...
Hi Valarie,
I've been off the computer for the last three hours.. and just logged in...
The PayPal messages have stopped...
I just thought it was very unusual since the other sites I had gone to earlier... didn't give me a PayPal message.. but this site did... (repeatedly)...

Re: PayPal message...
Maria,
I know a few months ago, I was getting the same thing.
My husband found out that someone was sending out emails/messages on some sites that were not affiliated with Paypal.
I would not go into anything unless you went directly to their site on your own. It lasted about a week. It has since stoppped.
Also, there are phony messages coming from vairous banks. My bank sent me a letter and I called them, and they said that someone is using their name sending phony messages to Update their info type of thing.
Be leary on any thing of that nature, although I know you would.

PS how have you been????? Havent seen you on in awhile.

Re: PayPal message...
Hi Ally,
Nice to hear from you!!
A week of PayPal messages?? wo.... that would drive me up the wall!! You received phony messages from various banks too..? That is really weird... that's quite the invasion...
When the PayPal message came up, there was a "Examine Certificate" feature which I clicked...
Another page pops out and it lists a series of "Fingerprints".., expiry date, serial #, etc... so I took a screen capture (photo) of that as well..
At one point, I was away from the computer for 3 hours.. and when I returned the problem had stopped...
I also went to my "recent items" list... and noticed a document called "International_pay.doc"... which I thought was really odd...
This forum site was the only place that gave me the non stop PayPal messages....
Having seen what Hackers can do to a site, I thought it would be best to notify forum members... Also sent B.Fornal (computer guru) a message which he replied quickly to... (thanks Bob)...
Even though the messages have stopped, it still leaves me a little worried...
Every few weeks, I clear my cache, and toss my cookies...

Re: PayPal message...
Here's an excellent thread to explain why some of this could be happening..spammers looking for victims. I have received a few in my private email but have known all along not to bother with them..I'va had no problems..its a bit off topic, but could still be related.

Spammers are lose all over..one of the other forums well known to many members here has been attacked in the last week with spam and porn links. I have not gone back to that site since. While trying to log onto to other forums today I received "strange" messages...speaking of which..is everything ok with the Polish Site Bob? Noticed it was in Admin mode earlier...was it down for Maintenance or did you have a problem?

Re: PayPal message...
Most of the spam is a result of spambots:
A spambot is a program designed to collect, or harvest, e-mail addresses from the Internet in order to build mailing lists for sending unsolicited e-mail, also known as spam. A spambot can gather e-mail addresses from Web sites, newsgroups, special-interest group (SIG) postings, and chat-room conversations. Because e-mail addresses have a distinctive format, spambots are easy to write.
Not only do they harvest email addys, but also attack sites with tons of spam.......Never click on a link within the spam posted or sent to an email addy......it will only generate more spam......Virtual Italia has several moderators and we still can't keep up with the spam being generated....
