Andres Costa

I'm seeking help in finding records for Andres Costa. He was born in the latter part of 1700 in Genova province. Family lore says he is from Santa Margherita. He was a ship captain and wealthy buisnessman and settled in Panama. I have searched the Family History library but have not found Santa Margherita, Genova. Thanks

Only a small part of the Province of Genoa has been filmed by the Family History Library -- Genoa City and a few other comunes. Santa Margherita has not been filmed. Civil records in that area begin in 1866. Because your ancestor was born in the 1700s, you would have to find church records. As far a I know, no church records have been filmed. Santa Margherita probably has several parishes -- you can check that on www.parrocchie.it .

If you can find anything that identifies the town he was from or his parents' names, it would help narrow the search a little.
