My great grandfather Guiseppe Ferrie (maybe Ferrara) could be a multitude of other spellings who was born in June or July 26, 1869 or 1870 in Naples or Potenza married Maria Illiotti( maybe Elliotti born April 15,1877) mothers name Filomena Mungona and father Vincent. Son Guiseppe born in Naples January 16 1896. I have been trying to find out our real last name and when they came to Usa. I can find numerous passenger lists with similar names but feel I must start in Naples where I have been told we immigrated from. I know they emmigrated to Canada in 1902 and he arrived in USA begfore my granmother after the baby was born. I don't know much more.Withour our real name and something solid to build on I am at a dead end. Anyone who could help I would be forever grateful.

Actually you should start by obtaining all available US & Canadian records for the family.

Do you have their ship manifest to Canada? Birth records for any children born in Canada? Birth record for your grandmother & any other children born in the US. Do you have US census records?

If you provide 1st names & birth years for their children & where the settled in the US, perhaps we can help more.

I have a census in Canada for 1910 which list the children and birth dates.My grandfather may have been named Geraldo not Guissepe . My great grandfather and mother should have arrived at different times. The earliest he could have arrived would be 9 months before the birth of Gerald born Jan 6 1896 in Italy. Then they were in Chicago where Rosina was born 1 Jume 1899 the in san Franciso where Alessandro (Alexander or Sandy was born 9 Nov 1901 then they immigrated to Voctoria BC 5 additiona children in Canada

I can find no records in USA for the family. I have several birth and death records of the children and marriage certifcates in Canada. The family was very secrtive and would not talk about the past.I do not have their ships manifest to Canada but have naturalization papers receiver in 1906 in Victoria

Hi Joe,

Spelling errors are very common on records. Is the 1911 census, posted by vj, the census record you were referring to? If not, can you link the correct one, just for reference.

What spelling variations do you have on the records?...... Do you have any that show Ferrara or just variaions of Ferrie?

Do you have Rosina's birth record from Chicago? If not, I have the Cook County, IL Birth Index at my FHC & can check it the next time I go.

Ferri is a name from Udine & Trieste.

Yes this is the census I was referring to.Thanks for all the info.This is the most help I have had in 10 years of trying to find info.I realllllllly appreciate all your help. I just found this website yesterday.

this town: Precanico........ don't exist.. maybe Tricarico (currentlyin Matera province) near Potenza.. but this is only a my suggestion.. regards, suanj

The town looks like it says "Precanice"...
