Find civial records for MONTUOLO, LUCCA

Post by Nello-LosAngeles »

Hello,
My grandmother was from Montuolo, Lucca. It's a small village north of the City of Lucca. How do I find out where records will be? Do you think they will be at the civil record office in Lucca or some other Comune close by? Need to write to the correct location.
Thanks,
Nello

Montuolo is a hamlet of the town Lucca, so it's vital records would be in Lucca.

You can trace family by ordering/renting the LDS films of the civil registries (birth, marriage & death acts) for Lucca through your local LDS-Family History Center.

Available films 1866-1935>

To locate your nearest FHC>

Information on obtaining these films>

Please note:Additional records/films:

After 1851the province of Lucca was considered part of the region of Toscana. The regional civil registration, housed in Firenze, begins in 1852 for Lucca and includes the years 1852-1865. For film numbers see: Toscana (Italia : Regione). Ufficio dello stao civile / Estratti dello stato civile, 1745-1865.

To help translate the records, your FHC will have an Italian-English genealogical word list for sell for a minimal fee.

If you prefer to write for the records, we can provide the contact information.

I hope this helps. If you need further assistance, have any questions, etc., please don't hesitate to ask.

Happy hunting!

Thank you for your help and information. How did you know it is a hamlet of Lucca? I thought it was but I could not find it listed anywhere.

I have discovered the FHC local. They have been very gracious and helpful.

If you go to www.nonsolocap.it and put in MONTUOLO and click cerca you will get a zip code, Montuolo, province abbreviation and region and tothe far right it says Montuolo is a frazione (absorbed neighborhood, hamlet) for the city of LUCCA. Her records would then be in the Uficio di Stato Civile in LUCCA.

Go to http://www.angelfire.com/ok3/pearlsofwi ... tters.html
for the form letters inItalian which you mail with your inquiry free of charge.
Go to www.tuttitalia.it/toscana/53-lucca and scroll down to Municipio for the address to mailyour request.
