NEED HELP WITH AUSTRIAN (CROATAN) NAMES/PLACES

I found a manifest for my husbands great grandmother but I'm having problems with some of the spellings of the names and places. The manifest is very hard to hard so I have spelled the items the best I can. If you have access and would like to look at the original it can be found through ancestry.com

Anna Beg, Arrival Date: 13 Aug 1899, Age: 22, Port of Departure: Havre, Nationality: Austrian, Ship Name: La Bretagne, Port of Arrival: NY NY

On the transcript I believe this is what the following says..
Traveling from: Ober Suschely (can't find this place)
Traveling to: Rutland,IL (did find this town)
Going to visit: Zaufa Josefet, Rutland, IL (the name gives me nothing - I'm sure I have spelled it wrong).

It appears she is traveling with another female - right above her - by the name Bucoir, The'rise - they are both going to the same place to visit the same person. This person is from Brizivu (sp).

Not quite sure who this person is that they are going to see. I suspect that Anna was coming to the US as part of an arranged marriage to Charles Brunski. In the 1910 census for Charles and Annie Brunski they are living in Wenona IL, about 5 miles from Rutland. Anna states she entered the US in 1899. The oldest, Annie, was born in about 1910 - so they must have married shortly after she arrived. They also show Austria (Croatian/Slovianian) as Place of Birth

I have tried to contact the county court house in LaSalle County to see if they have the immigration papers - but all I got from the Legal department (after many transfers) is, "There are some old documents in the back of the vault - there could be some immigration papers in there. You're more than welcome to come in and look through them.". Yeah, right. I live in Texas. Thanks for the help

I'm in Central Illinois....haven't found LaSalle county, or the nearby counties of Bureau and Putnam to be very helpful.....

Have you tried to email the state archives, or to contact the local genealogy societies in that area? You may have better results with one of those.....

Choose the county from the list, no title, click search and this will bring up the complete list of all records held for LaSalle county with the beginning and ending dates......you will also find the research policy at the top of this listing:

I'm thinking upper Silesia. But, not sure. I don't think Suschely is in German.

Sorry - I don't have ancestry at home and I'm not able to save a copy of the file at the Records Center. Maybe someone else could post it if they have access.

FYI - on census records they show Austria and Croatia as Nationality - if this helps.

Austrian nationality for that time could mean Austrian german, slovak,czech,polish,ukrainian, Italian,Hungarian, croatian,slovenian,and probably a few more.

There is village in switzerland of ober suche.

If my memory is still good, Croatia belonged to Austria in 1899.

I believe you are correct. I don't see why else they would put both down on the same census.
