FindtheForesi,
Here's a site with a brief history of Ruviano and some nice pictures. Interestingly, it's from a site for the Gaudio and Coppola families from Ruviano. http://coppola6.tripod.com/ruviano.htm
Hey Biff! Great site .
Can't find any of the 1900-1920 census for
the Demeo family.
Could be in Schenectady in 1900.
Probably in Bridgeport? CT in 1910 & 1920.
Tried all the children's names...
Vincenzo died before 1930, could have gone by
James?
Valarie
wouldn't you think with all these names
a census could be found??
De Meo, Di Meo, Demeo, Dimeo, etc etc

Hi Rich!
In order to find your family's records in Italy,
you'll need to know their town(s) of origin.
Although you have a lead from the 1898 manifest,
the 'last residence' is not necessarily the town of
birth. about.com research aid LDS Italy Research Outline
Two of the most common places to find the
town of origin are ship manifests (usually the
ones after abt 1896) and US WWI & WWII
draft registration cards. Naturalization records
(esp after 1906) may also have this information.
If none of these options pan out, researching
other family members might help.
The generally recommended next step is to gather
all of the pertinent US vital records that you may be
missing - you never know what information they may
contain.
Valarie
Ok ..Thank You Valarie!
We have a great start here with all you have found and of course the links!!
We are very very greatful for this!!
Will post more as some fun facts are discoverd!

If someone could help.. Have some questions about getting the SS-5 application data for my late relatives.
Can some one tell me the address of where to write to?
and what I need to give Social Sec. to get the SS-5 information?
If one is not sure of the SS # can you use other ways to describe who you want the # and information for?
And should I also mention "one of the freedom of informaiton acts"?
to save time?
I know they want $30.00 and I want to get it right the first time out if I can.
I think I may need this for record keeping and it may be needed for the consulate. It also may have some correct name spelling on it!..
I plan on getting these for Forese and Paonnone also..
Forgive me if missed this on my searchs here.
Thank So Much!
Rich

Hi,
I'm a DeMeo too.....although I don't recognize any of those names. This spelling of our last name is rare. When you begin checking in Italy, they all come from a town near Formia which is called Maranola. It is between Rome and Naples. There are so many DeMeos there, that they distinguished themselves between DeMeos and Donorio DeMeos.....I don't know why but Google "Maranola" and you will see the town's website. Who knows? We may find out later that we are related.
Hi Again JF82! It's been a while since I've been on this.. I did reply so let me know if it did not show up for you.. Hmmm forgot how to edit and correct my spelling here.. KR.. Rich
OK.. so it looks like my long reply did not post... This certainly is our Father Al! Give a write back when you get a moment.. Our Dad had glasses like that as most of that family did!

Italians have a long and deep-rooted tradition of beliefs about luck and things that give either good or bad luck. In Italy there are colloquial names for bad luck. Think of:"sfiga" or "jella" (read it as "yella), but the most scary thing for millions of Italians is "Il Malocchio", which translate ...
