My great grandparents immigrated from Italy in the mid to late 1890's.
They, or at least the children changed the family name to "Plony"
Four children were born in Italy, Anthony, 15 dec 1883 John, 7 feb 1889 Lena, 1894 and Angelo, 14 apr 1895
On the 1917 military draft paperwork I find the city of origin as Mechia LaFortore, and is supposedly near Campobasso. I believe spelling to have been a challenge, as one brother did both forms, and therefore I have come up with Macchia ValFortore.
On my grandfathers death cert I found the mothers maiden name as "Diust" but nothing else found on that name. Would very much like to know what the actual family name is.
Any help would be appreciated

Re: Val Fortore ancestors
You are right! It is Macchia Valfortore. It is across the Valfortore river from Celenza Valfortore. We have family from Macchia as well. (Some shameless adverstising) Check out my Celenza heritage site for pictures of the general area. I have one where you can see Macchia in the distance. It is on the sign our guestbook page. The little dots on the other side of the Lago di Occhito are houses from Macchia. I know there is an Italian language website about Macchia ancestry. I will try to find it later today, if I can.
