Caputo
Re: Caputo
Idineen,
Your family's story touches my heart and I want to help you find your Caputos. I've searched and searched Caccuri manifests and found only one Caputo family, but no Anna. I have also found 2 or 3 other records for Agusto Falbo. I hesitate to post them because I don't want to confuse the issue too much. Can you confirm suanj's manifest? Are you sure Anna was from Caccuri? Do you have any idea of her brother's name or if he had a family in the US?

Re: Caputo
I can't believe how helpful everyone is being. This truely means so much.
It is wonderful to have questions answered after years of wondering.
To answer your question, I believe the March 21, 1902 manifest is correct. From the WWI draft card, his DOB is Dec. 31 1876 which would make the Ellis Island manifest 1 year off, but on the census it said he immigrated in 1902. I have always thought this manifest is correct.
Let me talk to my grandmother about the census on Salvatore Caputo maybe she will recognize the name.

Re: Caputo
My grandmother can't confirm Salvatore Caputo as her mother's brother. But I was wrong about where he lived. He lived in STAR CITY, Wv. I'm sorry about that. He did return to Italy sometime after Anna died where he remained. It is very possible that she did not come from Caccuri, but that is what my mother always thought. She might have come from a neighboring town, I'm not sure. If I could just find her manifest, it might say something. Her marriage cert. only tells the names of her parents, but not the town in italy they were from.
The census that were posted earlier are great, because it happened to show Lucente's that were my grandmother's cousins!

Thank you I will read the article. That is wonderful
Ok. This may be very very far fetched but. I just found a "SHEDA INDIVIDUALE" that I made a copy of in Caccuri when I was there. It is for a Cherubina Caputo DOB 12? August 1908. Her Dad is Salvatore Caputo and her mom is Caterina which matches the census above. The thing is.. My great grandmother Anna Caputo, her mother was Cherubina. So, could Salvatore be Anna's brother, because usually the first born is named after the father, if it is a boy or the mother if it is a girl? Salvatore named his first child Cherubina. Possibly that could be the name of his mother, which is Anna's mother's name. I have no idea how we would verify this.

Re: Caputo
Two possible manifests for Salvatore. But in the second, the manifest is mislinked.I don't know how to find the actual manifest.

Re: Caputo
Hi MJ,
Here's the mislinked manifest you found for Salvatore.
1912 manifest, page 1, line 27
Page 2
If this is the same Salvatore, it appears that his wife Caterina may have returned to Italy with the children. That would also explain why their daughter Cherubina's name is on a Scheda Individuale.

Re: Caputo
I guess I need to look for Anna Carolina Caputo's parents (Guissepe and Cherubina Caputo in Caccuri's records, and then find see if Salvatore is her brother.

Great finds, Laura!!
On Carolina's manifest there's a notation with WV next to NY on the first page. The record's indexed as Carolina Cafueto from Caccuro on Ellis Island.
