Looking for origins of my Paternal Grandfather
Trying to locate my paternal Grandfather Dominic DiCorcia. Born in the 1890's (not sure if Jersey City or Italy) married Giuseppina Copozzoli from Gioi (arrived at 4 from Italy).
Any idea on best place to search where he was from?

Denise,
Starting with his US records:
census, military, possible immigration may help
These records can point to the best places to find
his Vital Records.
We'll be happy to help you look.

A possible manifest for Giuseppina, but she did not sail. Father Antonio went to NJ, but wife and children did not. Name is probably Capozzoli. Can you confirm?

Re: Looking for origins of my Paternal Grandfather
Saw the Neckar manifest in May 02 where the entire family sailed. Looks like my grandmother went back to Gioi and returned to JC in 1914 at 16 yrs.
What puzzles me is that DiCorcia seems to be a common name but cannot find a connection or starting point of all families. My dad is one of eight from Jersey City - and there were other DiCorcia's in JC, but they could not find the connection. Name is very common in NY, NJ and CT.

probably incorrect, see MJ's link to
a 1910 manifest further down this page

Interesting 1906 manifest
Domenico Di Corcia 16 (abt 1890):
Joining brother Luciano in New York
Last residence Santomenna (Salerno)
Note: there are records for a Domenico Di Corcia
in NY, this Domenico may not be yours…

Re: Looking for origins of my Paternal Grandfather
No, the line through the names indicates that they did not sail.
What confuses me is that the mother's name changes from Maria on the 1st manifest to Rosa on the 2nd. Might be MariaRosa or might be 2 different women.

Re: Looking for origins of my Paternal Grandfather
Di Corcia is not that common on Ellis Island. Checking all variations of the name approximately 20 people emigrating.

Misbris,
Trying to understand how you know they did not sail. Do not see lines thru names.

Re: Looking for origins of my Paternal Grandfather
Can someone else look at this manifest for us? Are dark lines through #'s
20 -24 crossouts? Maybe I am misreading.

Agree,
probably line outs (did not sail) = most of the information
is also missing (no ditto's)
Also, the family also isn’t listed on
the 1902 special inquiry page
with Antonio.
Note: only detained for one of each meal.

Re: Looking for origins of my Paternal Grandfather
Spoke to my dad today. He said his maternal grandmother's name was Rose, so perhaps Maria was a middle name or something. He does recall that Dominic had one brother that they did not see, and he did not recall the name. I may try to look more in Santomenna.
