So, if you're searching for living relatives, this is a possible U.S. Record about Lauren:

is this Congiusti thread still alive?

i have access to the records from San Nicola da Crissa on microfilm if anyone would like me to take the lines back a little further... i can try to connect them to my Congiusti ancestors in San Nicola (early 1700s).

looks like the father of Bruno Congiusti Sr was Giuseppe... does anyone know Bruno's mother's name or, better yet, Giuseppe's parents' names?

incidentally, the Brazil connection interests me too... my great-grandfather Cosentino (from San Nicola da Crissa) first emmigrated to Brazil, then to America about the same time the Santarseri family did. apparently, some of my family stayed in Brazil.

Peter-

earlier in the thread it was mentioned that the SANTARSERI family went from San Nicola to Brazil to America.

the italian/brazilian family i would be interested in (and would welcome any help on) is COSENTINO (not CONGIUSTI).

the family of Gregorio COSENTINO (b. 8 May 1856) and his wife, Rosamaria MARTINO (b. 4 Apr 1858), left San Nicola da Crissa for Brazil around 1900(?) to work on a coffee plantation and apparently returned to Italy shortly thereafter leaving at least two (maybe four) daughters in Sao Paolo.

it seems that at least these two COSENTINO sisters lived their lives and raised families in Sao Paolo:

Mariantonia COSENTINO (b. 6 May 1889, San Nicola da Crissa, Italy).
Caterina COSENTINO (b. 29 Jul 1894, San Nicola da Crissa, Italy).

this is where i lose the trail...

help?

There is no record from two separate sources as to the arrival in Brazil at Sao paulo Port of arrival for the parents Gregorio or Rosamaria and no record of the arrival of their daughters Maria Antonia or Caterina.

It may be difficult to lpcate the daughters since the telephone directories will beinthe husbads name but I will give it a try unless you canuinderstand portuguese? Peter=

Peter-

unfortunately, i do not understand Portugese. i couldn't find the family's arrival either (one source). i am not certain of the year they may have arrived in Brazil, but it would have most likely been between 1894-1902.

my great-grandfather, Giuseppe COSENTINO (b. 15 Aug 1884), would have also been included... we have been told Giuseppe first went to Brazil with the family, and then came to the USA by himself. i have since found his arrival in the USA, in 1903, showing that he left from Italy, meaning he must have returned there from Brazil. i know that the parents were back in Italy by 1902. oral history says that Giuseppe left four sisters in Sao Paulo. i have only found two possible sisters' birth records (the aforementioned Mariantonia and Catarina).

i understand the problem of finding these women due to married names. i have been hoping to hit on a pocket of immigrants from San Nicola in Sao Paulo amongst which they may have lived. there may have been specific coffee plantations where the Sannicolese may have been grouped. these women most likely would have lived among and probably married their paesani...

any help or leads are much appreciated.

now you've got me thinking about this.

it is also possible, i suppose, that the family left Italy for Brazil AFTER 1902... although if it were after 1903, Giuseppe could not have been with them.

That's what I'm talking about. We're the only Cosentinos in Sao Paulo, Brazil

Hope you get this message, Dean
