Sicilian Family from Alia, Sicily

Post by jmpolitz »

I am the great great granddaughter of a man named Salvador Puglisi from Alia, Sicily. His son (my great grandfather, Antonio Politz) traveled to the USA and settled in Napleonville, Louisiana. He married Virginia Russo also born in Alia, Sicily. Does anyone have any information of this family named Puglisi?

Is your Antonino Puglisi born 1888 to Salvatore born 1/12/1851 and Concetta Maria Todaro who were married 11/5/1878, and one of at least 6 children born between 1879 and 1888
Salvatore's parents were Gaetano Puglisi born 5/9/1825 and Anna Russo abt 1819, who probably married in 1849. He was one of five children born between 1851 and 1860.
Gaetano parents were Salvadore Puglisi b. abt 1793, and Santa Biondolillo b. abt. 1790. They had about 8 children.
Most, but not all the Puglisi's of Alia are related through them.

Note: One of Gaetano's brothers Antonino, born 6/13/1833 married my great-grandmother Cosima Tripi's sister Filippa.
Also through your Antonino(s) mother Concetta Todaro, I am related. They are Iovino's. My relationship calculator puts Antonino as my 4th cousin, twice removed. Pretty distant but then many Aliese are related by blood or marriage.
Also Concetta's mother was Rosa Falcone, whose mother was a Monteleone. That branch of the Monteleone's is not related to my branch.

Hopefully these people are the ancestors you are looking for, otherwise I am going to feel knd of foolish.

My husband's name is Glenn Meyer. His mother was Lena Politz who lived in Napoleonville, Louisiana. She recently deceased. Her brothers were Sam and Henry Poliz. Her sisters were Rita, Odette (Concetta) , Josie, Virginia Ann, Rosemary, Gloria. She is first cousin to John Politz who is a restaurant owner in Napoleonville and Thibodaux, Louisiana. my husbands brothers are Lee Meyer, Harry 'Dutch' Meyer, Lonnie Meyer, and Earl Hernandez. The original last name was Puglisi. My husband's grandparents owned a plantation home called the "Oaks" that burned down in the early 1950's. is your family from Belle Rose? my husband seems to think he knows who you are. :) have photos...do you?
