Re: What is this drink?
Grappa is made from the skins of the grapes after they squeeze the grapes to make wine they distill it and its almost 80-90 % alcohol You can buy grappa at your local liquor store..... my parent use to make it here every October which is wine season here in canada.
Re: What is this drink?

Sure you can buy it just about anywhere (liquor store) and almost every italian restaraunt has it.
Re: What is this drink?
Just a 'tiny' example of the local grappa where I live in the Valtellina....
But a different grappa is (can be) made from each different type of grape, just as wine is. So a good cabernet grape for example will produce a distinctive wine but the 'vinacce' will also give you a good grappa too!

God I haven't had grappa in so long! Yes, my parents often used make it too when then made the wine. Personally, I am not very fond of it but then again, I really don't drink much.

Another local drink is Limoncello. It is very easy to make and can be made also with oranges.

Re: What is this drink?
This is my niece's "Simpleton's Recipe" for limoncello. (simpleton 'cos she struggles to even boil an egg...)

Home made Limoncello
You’ll need:
1 litre of water
1 litre of good spirit (95° if possible - suitable for food preparation)
500gr. Sugar
Peel of 8 -10 large lemons (6-7 if bought in Italy)
To prepare:
Wash the lemons and peel them, leaving as little of the white pith attached to the yellow skin (the ‘valuable’ part) as possible.
Place the yellow peel in the alcohol to marinate for approx. 10 days.
After which, boil the water and dissolve the sugar in it. Then add the spirit (the peel should be discarded).
Filter the liquid and bottle it. It must always be served well chilled, so put it into the freezer before serving it!
Very easy, very tasty and VERY POTENT...
ENJOY!!!

Re: What is this drink?
You can keep it in the freezer and serve in frosted shot glasses as you usually do with limoncello -makes them go down even sikier. Here in this area of Florida we have to special order grappa. We make our own limoncello with home grown ponderosa lemons, oranges -- and this year we also did strawberries-. When we can get walnuts with the skin still on, you can make that too,
