Perhaps someone is familiar with the name or common varations. I know this is how my family uses it today. I hav a hard time finding records because I am unsure of my grandparents spelling...possibly Lo Buono? All I know is that my grandfather's name was Giovanni Lobono(??) He worked for the railroad company and lived and died n Chicago,IL. How would I try to find out what part of Italy he came from and when? I know it must be before 1932 because that i when my father was born here in the U.S. I will appreciate any help. thank you,
Dominic

Re: Surname- Lobono
Hi Dom and Welcome!
Do you have a birthdate for your grandfather? Wife's name? Children's names? Siblings? Any information you can provide will help us locate records.

Re: Surname- Lobono
If you can find your family’s US records
(census, military, etc), they may contain clues
that will help you locate a ship manifest.
The ship manifest can lead to perhaps the original
spelling of your name and town in Italy.
We’ll be happy to help you look.

Re: Surname- Lobono
Great work, Valarie !
In checking Pagine Bianche and L'Italia in detagglio, both Lo Bono and Lo Buono yielded matches in Altavilla Milicia.

Hey Biff !
No luck on WWI or WWII Cards, that's pretty odd
No Gaetano, Guy or Thomas in 1910 in Chicago either
Those records should be there

Re: Surname- Lobono
Thank you. You two have been very helpful. I am quite sure that this is the correct John Lobono as the names of his children match those of my aunts and uncles.
Re: Surname- Lobono
Sicily was full of Lobono's (palermo) and in U.S. (new Orleans). My Sicilian LoBona's became Bona over time in U.S.
