I found the ship manifest for my great grandfather and it has what looks to be montesobano and on his WW1 Registration card there is Mounteskeno. The only location I can find on google or mapquest is Montesano in Northern Italy. Is this one in the same?
If so does anyone know how I can get records from there. This is apparently where he was born and we have nothing on him except a picture, death certificate, and what I found today. Would love to get farther up the tree.
Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the forum,
If you check the following site you will find many possiblities.

The manifest itself may have some clues. Can you post it or give us your ggfather's name and dates? Someone might be able to help.

Hi Mayguire,
misbris is correct, the manifest would be helpful. In the meantime a comune name matching closely to the WWI draft card
Montescheno, province: Verbania - region: Piemonte
The "ch" being pronounced as a "k".

I'll say it again Valarie, you are truly amazing!!!!
There is no doubt that Elizabeth is correct about the town. The manifest also shows he is going to his two brothers, Carlo and Giovanni in East (Canaan?) CT.

Gosh, MJ, thanks

Turns out there are several people with trees
on ancestry for Vittorio (Victor Peter)
Here's just one: http://trees.ancestry.com/pt/person.asp ... id=1583915

Ok, I am amazed at how many responses I got on here. Thank you all, your great. Yes Valarie, you have the right manifest and registration.
Misbris, I think you are right on who he is visiting. I could read Carlo and Spadaccini but wasn't sure on the Giovanni. Great call and yes it is E Canaan, CT.
Ok, now where is Montescheno? I looked it up on Google but it keeps wanting to send me to Monteseno. My mother though her grandfather was from Sicily or Naples area and her grandmother was from Genoa.
Again, you all rock. THANK YOU so much. I was sure it would be weeks or months before a response.

Again, amazing. Thank you so much. Suanj, I will send the information to my mother. She will be going in August and is now hoping to get there to see the town and do some hands on research.
Misbris, thank you for the link. I find it funny that the 2 of the top five common names are in my family line. Course we had a different spelling but that is understandable.
My great grandfather Vittorio's mom is Manacci or as they spell it Minacci and his wife's name is Assunta Christina Torri, or as they spell it Tori.
I think this has helped immensely with moving us forward. We have been at a standstill until I found the passenger manifest and the Montescheno.
Thank you all so much.
