Looking for information on TOTIRE

Post by Totire »

Looking for information on TOTIRE, originating in the Bari area.

I heard it was a variant of TOTARO. Was this name possibly based on "Saint Theodore of Tyre"? I understand this was a popular saint among certain populations of that region.

Totaro surname, tipicallysurname of Bari and Brindisi area, has origin from diminutive italian first name Teodoro, coming from greek name Theodorus ( from language contraction contractio totorus)
formed from greek words: theòs = God, and dóron = gift, therefore means "gift of God"; really Saint Theodore of Tyre has popular devotion in Brindisi town (near Bari town)..
Totire is an version, misspelled in the past, of original Totaro surname..
