Last name Laurenzo and Favicchio
Hi there,
I'm trying to locate information on my great grandparents to track down their birth, marriage and death certificates. I know where they were buried and have access to those and we think we may have found the marriage certificate as well but are waiting on a family member who's not so interested in this project. We're trying to acquire our Italian passports by line of decent.
Here's the information I have now. I believe I've found the second manifest record for my great grandfather but Im really not sure. My grandfather has passed as well as most of his family and I only have my grandmother who knows very little of the side of the family I need to know about.
Vincenzo Laurenzo-most likely born Sept 18, 1874 in Napoli or Caivano, Italy
Married to a first wife, name unknown. Believed to have 3 children with the third dieing during childbirth and first two children passing as well. Unknown if this happened in the US or Italy. Third child was named Fred.
Vincenzo was in the US looking for work in New York. His sisters husbands name was Russo (the possible manifest to Vincenzo has a name that could pass for Russo? Looks like Ralph or Ralfo with a surname that doesn't ring any bells in the family). Was set up by friends in New York and he sent for his 2nd wife, my great grandmother. Her name was Alessandra Favicchio. No records on her. Believed to be born May 1st, 1885 in Marcianise, Caserta, Italy.
Together they had 8 children...Joseph, Anthony, Vincent, Arnold, Madaline, Carmella (or Campiglia), Mary and Concetta. I found an Armond Laurenzo listed through a website who lists Vincenzo and Alessandra as his parents. this could be Arnold? That same site also listed Alessandras name as Alexandra Favlchhia but can't find any records associated with this as well. They were married in New York as soon as she arrived but can't find any marriage records.
Can anyone help? I'm slowly acquiring new information and should have more next week so if you have questions, please ask them! There is also a ton of Laurenzo's in the Schenectedy and Saratoga area. Would love to know if they are related. My family was in Mechanicville..12118 area code until the last 30-40 years or so. I also found a passenger record by chance that says they are the wife of a Laurenzo but can't read the womans name or the first name of the Laurenzo. If you think you can decipher the name, let me know and I will email the link to the manifest.
Thanks everyone! And if you're a Laurenzo, let's see if we know each other!

Re: Last name Laurenzo and Favicchio
Also, he was believed to become a citizen right before my grandparents got married and my grandma is in her 70s? Which would likely make them married sometime around 1950-1965? I'd say in the 50s sometimes...Not sure where to look for naturalization records

Re: Last name Laurenzo and Favicchio
oh my gosh guys this is wonderful! I tried so many spellings of alessandra's name...i never thought it would be spelled that way. There is another family of Laurenzo's living in Saratoga that I'm not sure if they were related...in Schenectedy as well so the one in Saratoga may not be my vincenzo from the census but I'm guessing it is by the alternate spelled names. Also thank you for deciphering Russo's name...My Gram does remember Russo and that he did live in the city. This helps TREMENDOUSLY! Will post more questions once I fill in some more blanks.
I love this site!

Wouldn't Concetta Massaro have the last name Laurenzo as well if it was the grandmother? It states that Guiseppe's mothers name was Concetta and Fred's grandmother but they are Laurenzos...not Faicchios. Is it possible she would've assumed her maiden name after her husbands death maybe?
Re: Last name Laurenzo and Favicchio
ciao Cassandra!!!
I'm very happy to help you, like everybody here!
so, I think that Concetta MASSARO is Vincenzo and Giuseppe's mother because in Italy women keep their last name even if married.
So Concetta was Ferdinando's paternal grandmother....
Did you see that Giuseppe Laurenza at his arrival declared his nearest relative in Italy his mother Concetta Massaro/a?

Re: Last name Laurenzo and Favicchio
ok that makes sense if they kept their last names...you have no idea how mucht his helps! I think I have enough information to at least try to track down alessandra's birth certificate now. With a birth city, birth dates, etc...do you have any idea where to find the birth certificate for alessandra and vincenzo? I heard that the churches kept records at that time and still hold those records. Do I have to go to Italy to track them down? I hope not but it IS a good excuse to go haha. Do you do this for a career? you know a lot of places to look! It's so fascinating to find out about your families history.pink67 wrote: ciao Cassandra!!!

I'm doing this for hobby, genealogy is of great interest for me....
I'm in Italy so I don't know if I can help to point you in the right directions to request documents in USA, but I can sure advise you to request first the marriage certificate, you have the number and all the dates you need.
Here is the link to the form:
http://www.italiangen.org/ny_marriage_application.htm
And, as you know the exact birth date and place for Vincenzo Laurenza you should request his "estratto dell'atto di Nascita" to the Caivano Comune:
Comune Caivano
Stato Civile
Via Don Minzoni, 1
80023 Caivano (NA)
I'm searching now for a form to request this certificate...
