I am looking for Paganos from Palermo, Sicily. The immigrated to Ellis Island around 1930. Any info would be great!

Can you be more specific. 1] there were 3370 people with name Pagano that came through Ellis Island. 2] Ellis Island closed in 1924 so if they came after, they came through NY but are not listed at the Ellis Island site.

What are the names...first and last...that you seek? Where did they live in America? Approximate date of births? Name of wife, first and maiden?
Name of children?

All these will get you back to the right group of individuals. Since the name is so popular, we have to identify which branch of the Paganos you relate to...then you can find relatives in Italy.

Let us know, and we will see what additional we can find.

ok, thank you. My grandfather's name is Joseph Pagano or Guiseppe - I am not sure which name he used as a child. He would have been 8 years old at the time of immigration. His parents were Carmello or Carmine and Domenica Pagano. And they actually came from Graniti, Messina, Sicily.

That is good to know that Ellis Island records closed in 1924, my grandfather always said he came through there. He must have been confused as he was just a boy.

Any information would be great! Thanks!

HI......

Found this:

Carmelo Pagano arrived at Ellis Island on Nov. 11, 1923 at the age of 40. Coming from Graniti, he had been in the US before from 1902-1914. He was on his way to Johstown, NY to meet his sister, name not given.
He left his wife, Domenica Brunetto in Graniti.

Found a Giuseppe DiFazie in 1910 census who was married to a Concetta. Giuseppe's brother-in-law...Carmelo Pagano...was boarding with them.

However, I cannot find the family in the 1930 census. Do you know where they lived? Any other information you can provide will help. Just too many Joseph Pagano's to tell who is who...so I need a city and state.

Hope this helps

I'll bet that first one is him because they did settle in Johnstown, NY. He must have gone back to get the rest of the family later. I checked with my dad last night and he said that my grandfather said they came over in 1929 on a ship called Mayflower. If you can find any more info that would be awesome!

THANK YOU!
