Unless I find out otherwise from the marriage cert, I plan to write Montecorvino Rovella and Eboli for birth certs at the following addresses. Do you think that is wise? Is it possible to reach the diocese in each of these towns for baptism records?

Comune di Montecorvino Rovella – Campania
Ufficio di Stato Civile
Piazza Padre Giovanni Da Montecorvino
84096, Montecorvino Rovella (SA)
ITALY

Comune di Eboli - Campania
Ufficio di Stato Civile
Via Matteo Ripa
84025, Eboli (SA)
ITALY
Denise, the addresses look correct.
No reason not to write.

The church records for Salerno appear to be at the same contact address in Battipaglia.
They should be able to direct you.

Hi again,

I just wanted to write this on the chance it could help someone in the future who is trying to find marriage records in NJ. By doing some research on Catholic Churches founded before 1903 (and specifically Italian parishes, if this information was available), I was able to narrow down the churches in Passaic and Essex Counties (specially in the towns of Montclair and Passaic, which happen to fall into two counties and two dioceses). Today, I called two of the churches that I thought were most likely and the second one looked for me...... and she had a record my great-grandparent's marriage in her church. So, thank you to everyone who gave my great clues and suggestions that brought me down this road ... and hope these links help someone in the future.

Here are some of the resources I used to narrow down the churches:

Catholic Churches of Essex County

Passaic County Historical Society Genealogical Club

Early Catholics in the Passaic County Area
- from the site above

Archdiocese of Newark (for Montclair,etc):

Archdiocese of Newark (for Montclair) – Sacramental Record Request

I am researching the family of Enrico Annunziata from Sarno, Salerno Province, Campania. He was born in 1879 in Sarno, married Angelina Marrone, Marzzone, Mazzone ???? in Sarno in 1908 and they emigrated to U.S. the same month. I know he had a sister Amalia Annunziata who married Alphonso D'apice. He also had a cousin Aniello Squitieri from Sarno. They all settled in Chicago Heights, IL. I have found them in the census and Ellis Island records...but I really would like some info on Enrico's Sarno family. Thanks.

Locating Annunziato and VERGATO marriage record in NJ

Post by DeniseNYC »

Hi again,

You may remember me. You all helped me SO MUCH last summer, when you helped me figure out that my GGPs were not married in Italy, after all, but in NJ!! THANK YOU AGAIN!!

I was not sure whether I should start a new thread or not, but thought I would continue here, in case some of the background info would be helpful.

So... I found my GGPs had been married in Sacred Heart Church in what is now Clifton, NJ.

On Aug, 23, 1903, when they were married there, Clifton did not exist. At that time, Sacred Heart Church was located in Acquackanonk Township.

Last summer, I went down to Trenton (in person) and asked for a search of GGPs marriage record, but the search came up NO RECORD. Although, at the time, I thought the right thing to do was have them check on Clifton, now I am thinking I should have asked them to check other towns as well.

I am now starting to think that their marriage record may have been filed under the town where my GGM lived at the time (Passaic).

Do you have any thoughts about how to locate/search for the civil marriage record before paying for a search through Vital Check (that may just come up no record).

I called Clifton directly - they told me no marriage records before 1917.

I also called Passaic, they were unable to check for me one way or another over the phone (they said come down or mail copies of all my birth and marriage documents from me to my GGPs). I would prefer to go in person.

Also, I called the church, to try to find out where their records may have been sent at that time, but they were not really sure (though they also suggested checking Passaic).

I am planning to go to Passaic in person, but still wondering if there is any way to narrow down where this record might be held before I drive to New Jersey.

Am I thinking this through correctly? Could it be that the record just does not exist or is there a chance that it may reside in another municipality? I can't figure out why Trenton doesn't have it (unless it is filed under another township - not Clifton - and they didn't look for records anywhere other than Clifton - ???).

Thank you for any ideas you have about this! I put the ball down during school, but have my appt with consulate at end of month, so am picking it back up again (though I am in summer school, still trying to move the process forward), so thanks in advance for any brainstorming you can do.

All my very best,
:) Denise
