Need help locating Salerno Family

Post by Mardi »

Hello All: Need some help ...again.
In searching my Family, I came across an obit that had a name of one of the siblings (Cosima Trombatore, did not on Family Tree) for my ggrandmother (Giovanna [Jennie] Ferrara) who came to the US in 1896. Giovanna [Jennie] Ferrara was married to Vincenzo [Vincent] Trombatore.

According to the 1930 obit, Cosima Trombatore married to Luke Salerno, and lived in Los Angeles, CA at the time.

I found some infromation on Cosima Trombatore Salerno Born January 8, 1899 in Louisiana and Died October 14, 1989 in Los Angeles.

I do not have access to Ancestry.com anymore. Could anyone help find the Salerno family.

Also what does the name Cosima translate to in English.

Thank you so kindly for your help.

Cosma is a separate name from Cosima (which is the female equivalent of Cosimo) in the Italian name dictionary and both are derived from Greek -Byzantine roots meaning well fashioned ornament.

Please explain more fully what you mean when you say "help find the Salerno family" =Peter=

Thank you for your reply. I guess that there isn't an English version for Cosima.

On "help find the Salermo family" I looking for any information that was recorded on the Census, that listed Cosima and Luke Salermo.

On the Obit that was found on my GGrandmother, it listed her children and there was a Mrs Luke Salarna (married name was spelled incorrectly) from Los Angeles, CA. After looking in Rootweb, I came across a Cosima Salerno. So I quessing that the family was living in California during the 1930 Census.

Thank you so much for your response.

Haven't placed them on census, and parked the "possible" child above here
for reference, name could be mistaken.

Thank you All:
wldsprit: Girolamo Salerno is a good possibility he is Cosima Trombatore child. Maiden name spelled incorrect (Grombatore)

suanj: Thank you so much, yes that is what I was looking for. I needed to place Cosima Trombatore with her family. That is where the families lived.

Do you think that the people on the 1900 Census Luke Ficaro (b. 1878) could be Luke Ferrara (which is my grandmother maiden name?)

I also have a Luke Trombatore (brother of my grandmother) born the same year 1878.

Also thank you for the California Death Index 1940-1997

Everyone is so helpful and I want to thank each and everyone.
