Re: Certificate translation
Hi Joe!
You need to use an image hosting service.
This is one:
http://www.imageshack.us/
Valarie
This may help:
Imageshack:
Save your document to your computer
(putting it on your desktop is pretty quick)
Go to http://www.imageshack.us/
Click ‘Browse’
Find your document, click (or double click it)
When it appears on the imageshack page (in the bar
next to ‘Browse’)
- don’t ‘resize’ it
Click ‘Host It’
After it loads,
Scroll down, choose the last option
Copy the address of your document
Paste the address from imageshack on your post

Re: Certificate translation
Fourth try. Here goes nothing.
Trying to translate document. Thanks, Joe B.
Keeps failing. Is there a size limit on uploads? Mine is under 300KB.
I was able to upload my profile photo last week. That was under 6KB however.
I'm trying both Imageshack and my own blogsite. Neither seems to work?

Re: Certificate translation
Hope this answers some questions for you... (I think the name was De Maso - it seemed like a capital 'M').

Re: Certificate translation
It seems to be a military release of obligations since Luigi was, (according to my records) living in the USA in 1917. I'm guessing he was not yet a citizen here and had to be released from Italy's draft requirements for WWI. Does that make sense to anyone?
Also a big thanks to Valerie and elba for your help in this matter. What a great website!

Re: Certificate translation
Hi Joe,
It appears that when he was due to be conscripted in 1915 at the normal age of 18/19 he did not present himself before the board to be enlisted....
He was therefore marked absent on the certificate for his call-up and would probably have remained liable to do his military service if he returned to Italy.
I can only imagine that this happened to many young men during those years and the 'Board' would perhaps have known where he was.
