Foglio matricolare e caratteristico

Post by PeteT »

I have a relative's Italian service record (Foglio matricolare e caratteristico) from the 1940s, 1950s. I can translate the language OK. The problem for me is the handwriting. I can't decipher it. I can't tell the difference between an 'm', an 'n' or a 'u'. Are there any tools for this?

You might try Discovering Your Italian Ancestors by Lynn Nelson which is a companion bookfor people who view micorfilms of italian civil records whichare also handwritten in that cursive handwriting. There is another book titled Italian Genealogical Records by Trafford R. Cole which is an easy read as well. Perhaps your local library have these books. =Peter=
