Benedetta Romano
Benedetta Romano
I need help in locating the birth certificate of my grandmother, BENEDETTA ROMANO.
On the passenger manifest at her arrival, she listed "Montecorvino, Salerno" as her last place of residence. There are two Montecorvino's in Salerno. Montecorvino Ravello returned my request with a "non risulta alcun attio di nascita relativo alla persona". Montecorvino Pugliano reported no results from 1880 to 1890, but did send me a copy of her younger sister, Maria Letizia's birth certificate.
In the family records that I have Benedetta's birthdate is Sept 12, 1883. Her father was Domenico Romano and her mother was Maria Postiglione.
An aunt thinks that she was born at "Ponte Carnal, Italy".
I would appreciate any advice as to how to proceed to obtain a copy of her birth certificate which I believe is required for my application for recognition of citizenship.

Re: Benedetta Romano
What province is "ponte carnal" located..Does your Aunt remember where it is located? Any shred of evidence as to its klocation and we can go to the provincial offices for her birth record. Didn't you ask her where she thought Ponte carnal is located?? =Peter=
Re: Benedetta Romano
Her younger sister was born in Montecorvino Pugliano, the town of
PONTECAGNANO is but 10km away.
Using the following you can search for a "contains", using a partial of the name your Aunt believes it to be.
http://www.landfinder.it/townfinder.asp
I would focus on towns within Salerno.

Thanks for the great lead. You guys are super!! I can see how Pontecagnano could sound close to Ponte Carna to a New York kid. My father had always told me that she was from "around Naples". I'll write to Pontecagnano and see what they can find. Thanks again, Pete

Re: Benedetta Romano
Is this site just to find the name of a town or person by "sounds like" ? Peter
Re: Benedetta Romano
No......something like babelfish, only it is in auditory form.
You have two options, you can choose to have the "person" repeat a word in a language of your choosing, or you can write the text in one language, example the english "hello", choose the translation to Italian, click on "say it" and the "person" says "ciao".

Dear she who blows soothing breezes how very refreshing to say the least. I tried it with curse words, anatomy and it is non judgemental. He who talks to the wind.
