Hi, me again... I am still collecting my docs for my dual citizenship app - I did not realize that I needed a Letter of Exemplification for my NYC documents... does anyone know if I send all my docs back to them and request letters of exempl. if they will do it?
Or am I going to have to re-order and pay for all the docs again? I didn't realize that NYC had a few extra steps... i.e. Letter of exemp, then sending it to the City Clerk, then when that is done off to get the apostille... I guess the checkers are checking themselves???
But anyway if this has happened to anyone else any input would be appreciated.
Thanks
Jeannie

I received my birth certificate without the letter of exemplification. I took the certificate to the Vital Statistics office before I went to the City Clerk (easy for me; I live in NJ). The lady at the desk asked me if I had requested one, and I showed her the form on which I had written "long-form suitable for apostille, Italy." She did the Letter of Exemplification within five minutes.
I would suggest that you complete this form:
http://www.nyc.gov/html/doh/html/vr/vitalf1.shtml
This is designed to deal with any problems. You would check the box that says "There is some other problem with the certificate I received," and then write the problem in detail in the "Additional Comment" box.
I used this form when there was a delay in receiving my father's birth certificate, and they were very helpful. I received a call from them within two days. I doubt you will have to order new certificates.

I am in SC so I know that it is going to get a bit complicated - and un-nerving sending all the docs collected to the City Clerk, and then to get the apostillle.... so how many people need to certify the certifier anyway? LOL
Thanks for the link I am going to do that tonight...any idea about the older ones from before 1910 - from the archives? Most of my certs are from there...
