Marriage Certificates

Post by Romano1970 »

Hello all. I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving.

Sort of stuck on something and I was hpoing someone could nudge me in the right direction.

My Grandparents Lorenzo Romano & Lena Nigrelli both came to America from Sicily(at the time they did not know eachother). Once they met, they were married somewhere between 1918 and 1922. I am pretty sure it would have been in their home area Passaic and or Clifton NJ.

How would I go about searching for the church so that I may get a copy of the marriage certificate.

Thanks
Michael Romano

Hello, Michael

You might also want to check with the Passaic County Clerk's office to see if you can get a copy of their marriage license or better yet if it's available their marriage license application.

Passaic county has a number of records online including naturalizations. I located Salvatore Nigrelli's naturalization records with links to images of the original documents. Check it out.

The site seems to be under construction. I went to put in his name and it came back with nothing under the Naturalization area

Hi Biff. I rec'd an email back just now from The link you just gave me. They gave me this link as well and I thought I would pass it on to you.

Hi,
We do not have such records that you are requesting. We only have Naturalization records. That means if he came to this country thourgh a petition. To obtain the Naturalization record you can visit our website at www.passaiccountynj.org and click on County Clerk then click on Search. All other information you are requesting such as marriage license, certificates are not filed with our office. I believe you would have to contact the municipality of where your grandfather resided.

Thank you
Nawissa

Michael

Open the link again.
Click on the Natualization Search button on the left.
On the new screen open the By Name tab and enter Nigrelli in the last name field, then hit the Search button.
You should get two hits. One for Salvatore and one for Vincenza Nigrelli.
Click the view button on the left.
On the next page click the Get Image button.
The original document should open on the right hand part of the screen. You can enlarge and save this.

Oops, sorry Michael.

I should have been clearer. Marriage records are not online; you can only search of Naturalization and Property records.

Hi Biff. Trying it now but for some reason ( it may be my PC ) the "name tab wont open , so I used the By County and entered in Nigrelli forst. Funny thing......the Vincenza that was under Salvatore is the woman on my great uncles paperwork as well.

Odd but I cant find anything under Lorenzo Romano / Romano Lorenzo.

Thanks though for the link. I am sure it will be very usefull in the future for other searches.
