Searching for Castello d'Alife
According to documents I have, my grandparents came to AMerica from the Commune of Castello d'Alife in 1924. The Commune was/is in the province of Caserta. This Commune seems not to exist any longer - I have some information suggesting that it was renamed and became Castelo del Matese, but I don't know how to confirm this. ANy information greatly appreciated.

The Comune isd Sant'Angelo D'Alife postal code 71017 and The comune of Catello Matese postal code 71016. Both are in the Caserta province. Peter

A lot of town in this area changed their own name from 'd'alife' to 'del matese' or only 'Matese' or simply without suffix about in the '70's
for example :
- I live in "Piedimonte Matese" once known as "Piedimote d'Alife"
- another town is "Sant'Angelo" once known as "Sant'Angelo d'Alife"
In my opinion your ancestors town is Castello del Matese, a little town in Caserta district with about 1489 inhabitants.
Postal code is 81010, phone code is 0823 (Caserte disctrict)
You can found a lot of information about it on web but I think it's only in italian.
PS: Castello mean Castel and this name came from the castel inthe town center the was the first building in the town

Sono Michele ed abito a Castello del Matese (fino al 1968 si chiamava Castello d'Alife).
il codice postale è 81016.
Se vuoi altre informazioni sono felicissimo. In più quest'anno, nella festa che si organizza a Castello, chiamata "La Giosta", abbiamo fatto una mostra riguardante gli emigranti in america e registrati sul sito http://www.ellisisland.org.
