Sons of Italy
Sons of Italy
Can i get more information? I think the certificatet does state that this document gives the right to form the chapter of "The Sons of Italy in America". The chapter must comply with all the rules and regulations.
The words "Dame del Risveglio" means "Dames of the Re-awakening". The signatures are difficult to interpret. The first signature in the third picture shows someone by the name of " Onorabile Giovanni ---" the last signature is "Eugenio V. " or Eugine. The last names are difficult to read.
In the last picture, the first signature is from "Umberto". The last signature is a "Paolino Grogale" The middle part states that the grand notary authorized it in Philadelphia on July 22, 1929.
Thank-you for your time;Joe

Re: Sons of Italy
"Onorabile" is Italian for "respectably"
Re: Sons of Italy
Hi suanj,
It is Philadelphia. That's why I gave the link for Penn. chapters of the Sons of Italy. ( Above it says the state of Pennsylvania) The name of the chapter is "Dame del Risveglio" ( it may translate to Ladies of the Awakening) #1546. The name and # don't exist in the present list of chapters, that is why I suggested Truckker call the contact person to find out the history of this particular group.

Re: Sons of Italy
While I agree that "Onorabile" is Italian for "honourable, respectable", I was not able to find this word in the document posted.jcat wrote:"Onorabile" is Italian for "respectably"
I instead found "Venerabile", a term mainly used in the Freemasonry, that my Dictionary translates into "Worshipful Master".

Re: Sons of Italy
Translation of both italian words as "Honourable" found in "A short Italian Dictionary" by Alfred Hoare, M.A>, Cambridge Univeristy Press, 1954. =Peter=

Re: Sons of Italy
Yes Peter, I stand half corrected and I suppose which dictionary is used to confirm, and the context in which the word is used "onorabile" is "Honourable" in English, via Cassell's Italian dictionary. My freelang dictionary on my desktop only translates as "respectably"... Cassell's also translates "onorevole" honourable, respectable, respected, whereas freelang has listed "onorevole" as honorable, honoured, member of Parliment.
after actually looking closer to document three, I do not see the word "onorabile" either. I must confess, I really did not look closely to the doc ,only to the question by truckker as to someone named "onorabile" and just checked out the meaning of the word and posted. as liviomoreno stated "il venerabile supremo" is on the third doc and, correct me if I'm wrong here folks, it means "The Reverend Supreme"
Anyhow I would like to take this moment to "Honourably" say Chow !
