Thank you ElizabethBillieDeKid wrote:Nice job Valarie!!

Surprisingly the records weren't too tough to find on ancestry.
Having no luck with the 1910 census for Salvatore/Sam & Sarah Termine.
According to the 1920 census, they should be in Louisiana and have had their first son Salvatore/Sam. If we could find the census, we may be able to noodle out where they were married.
I may have had more luck with the Candiotta/Massa manifest for Vittoria/Vita and the children if I had been looking for the right surname.
I wish the Louisiana naturalization records were online - it appears that Vito was naturalized. It would be nice to be able to confirm their town of origin in Italy.

Thats the same place I run into walls. I can't find the 1910 info on Sam and Sarah in Louisiana
Thanks again for all the confirmation!!!

Re: Termine / Candiotta Family
Looking at the 1920 census for Candiotta's, to me it looks like, Vito immigrated in 1887 and Victoria in 1888
The 1910 Census looks like 1898
but the Termine Census of Sam and Sarah Termine looks like Sarah immigrated in 1896

I would go ahead and post what you know (& the records you already have) on this forum under

I think the 1920 census is 1897 for Vito and 1898 for Vittoria & son Joe/Joseph/Giuseppe
The interesting thing - it appears that Vito & Joseph naturalized at different times. If either one naturalized after 1906, their paperwork will be pretty complete - that was the year they began standardizing the forms & information.

Re: Termine / Candiotta Family
Jaime,
Is this the same 1906 manifest that you have for Salvatore Termine?
I was checking to see who he was joining in 1906, perhaps he was living with/near them in 1910...
This is pretty confusing,
The handwritten notes don’t make the relationships clear
The women appear to be traveling under their maiden names (they normally would)
There are two other things tying them all together their last residence, Palazzo Adriano, and who they were joining - Salvatore & Antonio Collida`

Re: Termine / Candiotta Family
# 2 is my ggrandfather
Looks as if his father may have sailed with him. None of the family remembers this.
Wondering if Carmela Troncale was my ggrandfathers cousin.
my ggrandfathers mothers name was Catherine Troncale.
Trying to figure this puzzle out.
Thanks
Jaime

Hey Jaime,
Please let us know if you can figure out who everyone is!

Found the Candiotta manifest
In French 8O
SS Maurice & Reunion
(left) 4 April 1897 from Palermo to New Orleans
Lines 1-6
Vita Masi 30 (born abt 1866)
- day laborer, farmworker
- born in Piana
- destination New Orleans
Giuseppe Candiotta 9 (abt 1887)
Maria Candiotta 7 (abt 1889)
Rosaria Candiotta 5 (abt 1891)
Gaetano Candiotta 4 (abt 1892)
Giovanna Candiotta 2 (abt 1894)
In case you need help with Italian 1st names:

Piana?
Just two of many possibilities (more outside of Sicily):
- Piana degli Albanesi Palermo Sicily
- Piana di Capo d'Orlando Messina Sicily
a Frazione (Village) of Capo d'Orlando (main comune/town)
edit - added
Best guess would be - Piana degli Albanesi, Palermo, Sicily
All of the other locations on this page of the manifest are in the province of Palermo

Re: Termine / Candiotta Family
boy, your eyes must be better than mine....I am having such a hard time reading the charts. Thank you so much for all your help.
What I've come up with so far:
Father: Salvatore Termine (sr)
son: Salvatore Termine (jr)
Carmela Troncale is Salvatore Sr's sister in Law, who is married to Salvatore Collida.
Mother in Law to Carmela: Anna Barbata is Antonio (sr) Collida's wife, and Antonio Collida (jr) is their son

Not really, just a little more practice
Boy those relationships make a lot of sense - I just couldn't wrap my brain around it!
Thank you for clearing that up
