Searching for some Biagi family!!!

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Searching for some Biagi family!!!

Post by Martina »

Hi everyone, my name is Martina. I'm italian, from Tuscany.

I'm searching for the uncle of my grandfather. His name was Mario Biagi and was born in Vernio, Toscana in 1894, then went to Usa in 1911 (i found the records on EllisIsland), where he probably died in 1973 in Napa California (found on Ancestry).

My grandfather told me he was married with an american girl, but he can't remember the name, and that they got divorced. They had a son called Ernesto. I didn't find anything about the marriage and the son.

I have a letter that Mario wrote in 1962 from Oakland, California, so i started my research from this address, but i can't find anything or anyone with a strong match. I can't find Mario neither in the cemetery!!!

If anyone could help, i'll appreciate.
Thank you :)

Ciao Martina, :D
sono italiana anch'io ma preferisco in inglese (come posso  ) visto che siamo su un forum americano...

I believe this should be the 1930 census for Mario, he's living in Oakland and he's single (possible he was divorced...)

1930 United States Federal Census
about Maris Biagi
Name: Maris Biagi
Home in 1930: Oakland, Alameda, California
Age: 35
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1895
Birthplace: Italy
Relation to Head of House: Head
Race: White
Occupation:

Education:

Military service:

Rent/home value:

Age at first marriage:

Parents' birthplace: View Image
Neighbors: View others on page
Household Members: Name Age
Maris Biagi 35 head, born in It, year of immigr. 1911...

Or maybe he wasn't married at that time? Perhapas he get married later?

Laura

edit to add:

maybe this is his son:

California Birth Index, 1905-1995
about Ernesto Biagi
Name: Ernesto Biagi
Birth Date: 16 Jun 1935
Gender: Male
Mother's Maiden Name: Perry
Birth County: Alameda

So, possible he married after 1930 and his wife's maiden name was Perry...

Thank you Pink.

I don't know what to say about the marriage. I know for sure he had a son and a wife. In the letter of 1962, sent to one of his sister, he told her that he had grandchildren. Maybe he get married later, like you said, or maybe he was already divorced!!!
I would like to find other information, but i don't know where and how to search. Any advice?

Thanks again

Martina,

I tried to search mother's maiden name but without the given name, i think i had to search all the U.S!!! 8O 8O 8O
Thanks for your time

Scusa ho visto ora l'edit!!! We found the same Ernesto... i'll try to get other information! :D

It's really strange!!!
But the letter he sent to my grandfather's mother is dated 16 March 1962, sent from Oakland, and he put his address on it. So, i think, he lived there.

The draft registration say he worked for the City of Oakland. Perhaps they might have some records. Have we found SS info? If he was alive until 1962, he may have a number.

There is a listing in www.worldvitalrecords for Mario Biagi death in March 1973 and his possible burial in one of 4 local Alameda cemeteries. The website is a paying site but I managed to get around this for his arrival inthe USA, his army service, death and potential burial sites in Alameda county. Please let me know if you wish the names of the cemeteries since he can also be traced thru Find A grave.com? His social security # is 568-22-3133. =Peter=
