Re: Uncle that died in ww1
I've had a look at some sites which record deaths/burials of those killed in the First World War (Commonwealth War Graves Commission, American Battle Monuments Commission) and Cantillo doesn't come up, but the records are not complete.
An added complication is that some Italians who joined the Allied Forces changed their names - my own great uncle did so when he joined the Canadian army in WWII and was killed in action. His whereabouts had been a mystery for nearly 70 years and it's only by pure chance that I 'found' him last year.
If your uncle joined the American armed forces, the American Battle Monuments Commission may be able to help you, but more information about him would obvioulsy be key

Re: Uncle that died in ww1
This is what I have found at the ellis island site. My Grandfather arrived on Jan 2, 1915 on the Sant Anna. He is on line 0007, which shows his destination as His son Nicolos living at 50 Garfield Brooklyn. My uncle was one of twins. Their names were Nicolos and Anthony( American names). They must have been born in S. Agata di Puglia Foggia since my Grandfather arrived from there. One was in the American army and the other in the Italian the both died in WW1 I assumed Nicolos was in the American army. The only Nicolos I see on the Ellis island site came from Cuba thru Mexico, But his is too old to be my uncle

I think your manifest Nicola joining brother Giuseppe is correct suanj.
For reference - 1915 manifest of Alfonso Cantillo - line 7
Alfonso is from the town of Sant'Agata di Puglia - province of Foggia - Region - Apulia (Puglia)

Re: Uncle that died in ww1
I would like to thank all who have written on this subject
I am trying to find my family history since I am in my 60's and most of my cousins are dead or in their 80's
Peter-- I am interested in both uncles they were in world war one.
In addition this is what I have found
My mother was one of 8 brothers and sisters
Michele and caramela arrived in 1913 (brother and sister)
My grandfather Alfonso , Giuseppa my aunt, and Ma Luigia (my mother) in 1915
Guecenda and pasquale in 1920 (sister and Brother)
The Rocco cantillo I think is a cousin
That leaves anthony and Nicolos to find: one died in the italian army the other in the U.S. army.
Again I thank every one for their help which has allowed me to find the above

Re: Uncle that died in ww1
What is needed is the full name, date of birth and place of birth (the actual city, town or village of birth) of the soldier who was killed in actionwhile serving inthe Italian Army in WWI. I can then send off the italian language form letter to you and the address. If you happen to know when and where he was killed in action that would be helpful.
As for the other soldier in the USA army, please let us have his full name, date of birth and place of birth and try to locate him thru US websites. =Peter=

Re: Uncle that died in ww1
I have found the ship manifest that lists my uncle Nicola. He arrived on May 19,1910 and is on line 009. His last name is Cantello. I am sure that he is my uncle, since he lists his father as Alfonso and is going to his cousin at Hughes ave in the Bronx. My mother had told me there were cousins that lived on Hughes ave. I not sure why the last name has so many variations in spelling?ie: Cautillo, Cantillo, Cantello. Hopefully I can research this new spelling and find out more about him.

Hi suanj ,
Great find on the 1910 manifest - especially with the incorrect age transcription!
Here's the special inquiry page, not much information...
line 25 likely public charge
