Hi There,

Where can I find information on Italian soldiers who died in World War 1 in Russia? Is there a public list? My great-grandfather was born in Stridone - which was Italy at the time and is now Istria - Croatia.

This office moved a couple of years ago from address Piazzale Luigi Sturzo 23 - Roma - to Via XX Settembre 123/a Roma
I know this for sure because I have talked personally with people working at italian ministery of defense

Thanks Riccardo because the information was listed as being most recent.

The address ViaXX Settembre, Roma Italy under www.esercito.difesa.it/root/Storico/index.asp reflects that the History Archive, the Combatants benefits and other centralmilitary library documents were divided up and annexed to two other offices in Rome. One in Via Etruria, one via Via Lepanto and the remaining in Via XX Settembre but it didn't specify which went where. Thanks and good to see you back. =Peter=

As my knowledge, there war no italin soldier died in Russia in WWI.
There was battalion or regiment at all.
Only in 1919 a Regiment reach Russia for a short time.

It could be in WWII?

I would like to know where, and how my Grandfather was killed, and were he is buried. His name is Riccotti Marasco, born 2 JAN 1894 in Martirano. Fathers name was Giovanni. He died 5 SEP 1917. Was a solder with Regiment #219 Infantry. Thank You Francis Marasco

Once you get there, click the "Accedi al sistema di ricerca" link in the middle of the page.

On the next page, put Marasco in the box labeled Cognome and click the Aviva Ricerca button. Surprisingly, I do not see your grandfather listed in the results. It may be necessary to try multiple spellings of the surname before finding the record.

The other boxes on the form are Nome = given name, Anno di Nascita = year of birth, Luogo Nascita = place of birth. Note that dates in the results lists are written dd/mm/yyyy.

also you can contact Bologna State Archive, where there should be kept a copy of the comunication about his death to his family.

Also contact the civil record of the municipality where he was born so you would know the reason why he died and where initially was buried.
