help with unknown word on manifest, please?

I am reviewing a line on a ship manifest. The handwriting is generally very clear and easy to read. Under "calling or occupation" is written "laborer possident". Does this make any sense? I thought perhaps the second word could have been "peasant" but that word is clearly written on another line above, and the two words definitely look different. Thank you.

The word is definitely "possident", which is a not existing translation (?) of the Italian "Possidente"="property owner". "laborer" was added in a second time.
