Deportation
Does anyone know where the place is to inquire if someone had been deported. Served in the Army, so says 1920 census and there is a notation on his ellisisland.com record referring to 1935 and another for 1936. Family stories talk about deportation or jail as a choice for him, and he chose deportation.
Re: Deportation
I may be wrong on this, but I would think that if he had a choice between jail & deportation, the information would be in a court record.

If he was a naturalized US citizen, the US Citizenship and Immigration Services may have your answer.

Re: Deportation
I would agree with you on a court record, but don't have any idea what court and where. He was on 1920 census and nothing after that. I'll find it somewhere.

Re: Deportation
In 1920, the census says he was a soldier. I wondered about why he was on that census if he didn't live there anymore, but maybe I'm splitting hairs there. Just because he was "away" doesn't mean he wasn't a resident of that house, I guess. I think I'll check on court records in that area, tho. Elusive guy, this one!
