Street location in Schio, Italy

Hi all,

Just received some birth acts from Trish (brujaojos) on them she lists the address where my grandfather was born

626 Via Sessegolo.

When I go to paginebianche.it the street does not appear. Does this mean that the street might not exist anymore?
I tried searching all the Santacatterinas/Santacaterinas in Schio, but no one lives with this street name, any ideas?????

I was hoping to find a distant relative still living there, I know silly, the house must be old, but figured the street would still be there!

Hi Riccardo,

I have seen the phone listings, thanks, but I have another spelling of my last name.

On my gramps birth act it states Pietro Santacatterina, we assumed it was Santacaterina here in America, as this is how he signed his childrens report cards. My aunt saved hers.

There are also in Schio with the "tt" spelling but not this common street name, but you did find it on the map, thanks so much!!! At least I can pinpoint it now.

it was my pleasure.
I think there is nobody living there as Santacaterina or Santacatterina, because in the years if your ancestors or relative were owners, they would have sold it to sombodyelse, or maybe they were paying a rent.
When my great-grandfather got married on 1886, he changed apartments 4 times, from 1887 to 1899 (I knew that reading the address of place of birth, on birth record, of brothers and sisters of my grandfather) and on 1909 he bought an house with the money earned in Louisiana as a shoemaker,

Think it was vj found an arrival for my g-gram
Anna Zanella arriving in US on 9/1931 on the ship Conte Biacamano.
Dont know if this is her. She shows as widowed in 1931.

My gramps died in 1934, her Anna/Antonio Santacatterina came to US in 1934.

I guess, what I am trying to say is on her arrival it lists leaving from Genoa, and last residence town name of Sessegolo? She was born in Monte Malo????

Any ideas, thought it was strange that the street name for my gramps birth is the same town she listed she came from??

Hi Ally,

From the microfilm with which the copies I sent you as proof. The surname was spelled Santacatterina with "two t's". Remember a lot of names were changed when people came to the USA.

Next, Riccardo gave you good information as to where Sessegolo was located in Schio. Also, Sessegolo is a town and here is the map to show how close it is to Schio. Sessegolo could have been considered a Hamlet of Schio and that's why it was listed as a "Street" on the Birth Act.

Now your great-grandmother could have been born in Monte di Malo as VJ (Valarie) stated with the ship's manifest for her. She could have lived most of her life in Schio and went to visit family in Sessegolo before she came to the USA. All the towns are not far from one another.

Hi Everyone,

Been a long time since i was on here. I have been gathering information on my family of Santacatterina/Zanella from Schio.

In regards to the above manifest of Anna Zanella, it lists a visa number.
She states leaving Genoa and coming here in 1931.

My question is, is there a way to search out this visa number on this manifest. If so, what would it tell me? Would it list an address, whom she is going to visit in America and also, who she possibly lived with?

I know my g-grandparents came to the US in 1934, her spouse was alive.
My 2 oldest aunts passed away in the last two months, but this i do know as they kept tellin me, poppa's father was alive and came here when poppa died.
That both of their dads parents came here in 1934 when their father (my gramps died in January) passed away. They also had some mementos of when they came that they had given the children.


I cannot find an arrival for them, Antonio/Anna Zanella Santacat(t)erina
in 1934 coming to either Rhode Island (Anna's brothers lived there) or NJ where my grandfather/wife Rose lived in Guttenberg.


Any ideas or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Ally,
how are you? it is nice to hear from you again.
Unfortunately Archivio di Stato di Vicenza is not keeping any passport records. I would suggest you to send a request to USCIS, Washington DC, and to Homeland Security, St. Louis, Missouri to have the ICE complete file of your Santacatterina ancestors. It would take a while (9 months-1 year) to reply, but it is worth, for sure, they have many records of the people emigrating to USA. Good luck

I checked online for the 2 sites you mentioned. I can't order a search for the one in Washington as i do not have a birth month/date for either Anna or Antonio. I just have an estimate on the year from their childrens birth records from Italy.

Do you think if i submitted via mail instead of online they would be able to do it without the birth month/day?

I mean it is only $20 dollars for a search, which isnt too bad a price with the little information they ask of you in the first place.

I was wondering, if i wrote to Schio to request a family situation sheet of Antonio Santacatterina without a birth month/day would they be able to locate one? Or do i need the month/day as well as the year.

I have the address off the birth records so i could give them that information as well?

I cant seem to do anything more on Antonio. I found a lot for his spouse, all her famil arriving in and residing in Rhode Island, USA. Its his side i hit the wall with.

Any suggestions?

Dear Ally, yes, I'm well, thank you.
You can try to write to USCIS/Homeland Security via regular mail, putting all and any infos you have about him/her.
If you want to write to Schio civil record office, in order to have his Historical Family Certificate (stating his parents and siblings, this is what you need?), a phone call, (and you need to speak only in italian with them) is worth because most of the times this certificate has a cost, and it depends on how many names they found.
If you want to have his birth record or certificate, then approx year of birth is needed.

My cousin visited Italy in May. She went to our g-fathers hometown of Schio. She located the street in which he lived and all newer homes with different addresses are posted. But she found the street, its in the hills and she said the area isn't all that beautiful. She thinks it may have been hit in WWII.

She then made a trip to the cemetery there. She spoke with a groundskeeper as the office was closed. She asked about our family of Santacatterina's being buried and he said after 100 years, if no family pays for the plot, they dig them up and resell the plot.

Riccardo, my question is: Where do the re-inter the caskets? In the same cemetery or do they creamate the remains?

She took Pictures of some Santacatterinas and Zanellas as well. Not knowing if they are related or not, but took them in case in our search the names come up.

Lastly, Riccardo, she went to the town hall and found a census of our g-grandfather with its family. The man would not let her photocopy it, but he allowed her to take a picture of it with her camera. She said its poor quality, but it might help me out.

This is where you come in, when she sends me the photos all of the info she gathered, do you think you might be able to get us that copy of that census she found? And also, if that in turn could lead to a birthdate of my grandfathers dad Antonio??? Then if it could get you to find a family situation sheet on them????

sorry for my delay. How are you? I hope you are well.
Usually after long time, if rent of plot is not renewed, the manager of cemetery tells to his coworkers to take the cuffin out from the plot, and the remains go in a box, and this goes in a huge common graveside.
About informations kept at Schio about Sattacaterina family, if your cousin had problems to have a copy of the census or something, you can always request a certificate (abstract of it)
When you write, you need to state what kind of informations you are looking for.
